City of Rosenberg News Update
At-Large Position 2 Candidate Richard Olson Withdraws From Runoff Election; Alicia Casias To Be Declared Winner
The city of Rosenberg held a General Election on Saturday, May 1 to elect positions of Mayor, Councilor At-Large Position 1 and Councilor At-Large Position 2. The election resulted in Kevin Raines winning the Mayoral seat, Tim Krugh winning the Councilor At-Large Position 1 seat and a runoff declared for the At-Large Position 2 seat between candidates Richard Olson and Alicia Casias.

On Friday, May 14, candidate Richard Olson notified the City per the rules set forth by the Texas Election Code that he would be withdrawing his candidacy from the runoff election. Per Section 2.053(a) of the Texas Election Code, immediately upon City Council’s receipt of a Certification of Unopposed Candidate, Alicia Casias will be declared the winner and will be sworn in as Councilor At-Large Position 2 during a special City Council meeting to be held on Tuesday, May 18. At that same meeting, Rosenberg City Council will also vote to formally cancel the Runoff Election which was scheduled for Saturday, June 12.

In a statement to the City, Olson said, “This decision is one that I do not come into lightly, but due to recent unforeseen circumstances in my family I am unable to serve the citizens of Rosenberg as a member of city council. It has been an honor and a privilege to have run in this election, and to have come so close to a victory is truly humbling. I want to thank all who voted for me and all that supported my campaign; this wouldn’t have been possible without you. I ask that you please join with me in congratulating the newest Rosenberg City Council member Alicia Casias; we wish her, her family and the City of Rosenberg all the best.”
