Pastor's Message

The Rainbow Dogs

Artist: Pastor Maria Markman

Medium: School Glue, Acrylic, and watercolor

"The animals of God's creation inhabit the skies, the earth and the sea. and have a part in human life. We, therefore, invoke God's blessing on these animals. over all the creatures of the earth." -St. Francis of Assisi

The collection in the education wing at Grace was created by Pastor Maria during her stroke recovery. She calls them The Rainbow Dogs. In worship, we have been studying texts in Genesis. We heard about Adam the first human called by God to name the animals and care for them, and about Noah and his family taking the animals two by two onto the ark. At the end of the flood there was a rainbow. God placed God’s bow in the sky and promised to never again point God’s bow toward God’s people by flooding the entire earth. And then the story of Abraham and how God blesses us to be a blessing to others including the animals in your life!

If you have a dog in your life that you would like to get “rainbowed” tell Pastor Maria. She has a lot to do so it might take a while for her to finish it. But she will eventually get to it. She also could teach you how to do this on your own!

If you are an artist and have a piece of artwork you would like to share here on the Grace gallery wall, contact Pastor Maria.

This installation will stay up through Sunday, October 2. October 2nd is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals from 11:30am-12:00pm bring your pet to church for a special pet blessing!!!

Ed has led men at Grace for 21 years on Saturday and Monday mornings with wisdom and guidance. He was presented with the pictured praying hands plaque made by Kent Swedberg and signed by the men in his group. Again, thank you Ed, for all the ways you have led, blessed and ministered to the guys at Grace for so many years!
