A PRAYER FOR MAY
BY SR. HELEN JEAN NOVY, HM, VICE PRESIDENT OF MISSION

May, dedicated to Mary, culminates in the feast of Pentecost.
Mary, you were filled with the Holy Spirit
at your annunciation
daring your Yes,
and at the visitation
inspired to sing the Magnificat
and at Pentecost
receiving the Spirit’s gifts.

Teach us what it means to be filled
with the Holy Spirit
and showered with the Spirit’s special gifts.
Help us use wisdom to value things that last.
Help us use fortitude to persevere
through new demands.
Help us use understanding to apply
scripture to our new world.
Help us use counsel to collaborate
in creative questioning.
Help us use prayerfulness to become
closer to your son.
Help us use awe and wonder to place ourselves
in relation to God’s creation in genuine humility.
Help us use knowledge to meet challenges and
assist others with problems and needs.
Filled with the light of the Spirit,
let us be confident in the path ahead.
Filled with the fire of the Spirit,
let us share the good news of renewed life and hope.
Amen.
