Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Capitol Plaza is NOT able to host our popular Last Call for CLE this year.  Accordingly, we will be conducting the program via WEBINAR on June 16, 2020.

NOTE:  Because nobody would possibly sit through an all day webinar, the program will be TWO hours this year. Yes - one hour will be an Ethics credit. The other hour will be Current Developments and other exciting things.  We apologize for the abbreviated program. If you need additional CLE before 6/30/20, please plan accordingly.

CATIC Foundation Provides Financial Support to Vermont Food Bank and others

The CATIC Foundation, the charitable arm of the CATIC Financial Family of Companies, has awarded more than a dozen cash grants to various food banks located throughout New England, New York, New Jersey, and Florida.  CATIC's President, Jim Czapiga, acknowledged the extraordinary circumstances that we find ourselves in due to the COVID-19 crisis. The funds will support the great work these food banks do in distributing food to those who are most in need.

What is (and isn't) RON?  

With current efforts to minimize in-person interactions, there has been a push across the country to implement emergency measures to allow notarizations to be conducted remotely. However, what processes are permissible under these emergency measures and how they stack up to other closing methods, including remote online notarization, can be confusing.
 
A remote online notarization (RON) is a process of notarizing a document in a digital, online platform while the notary and the signer are in different physical locations. RON involves electronic documents executed by the signer using electronic signatures and notarized electronically using an electronic version of any required stamp or seal. The electronically notarized document should then be sealed in a tamper-evident manner to prevent any unauthorized changes to the document.
 
In contrast, remote ink notarization (RIN), is permissible under many states' emergency executive orders, rules, legislation, and other guidance (including Vermont). RIN allows a notary to be in a different physical location from a signer and to observe the signer executing the document over a recorded video conference. The signer executes the document with wet-ink signatures and transfers the document by mail or other delivery service to the notary.
