School Buses Loaded
for the
American Indian Christian Mission

The American Indian Christian Mission (AICM) raised funds and bought two school buses from a school district in Indiana. Jeff Cline, the Executive Director of AICM, visited Midwest Mission recently and during a conversation with Brad Walton, Operations Manager at Midwest Mission, he mentioned that the school buses were going to be driven from Indiana to Arizona in July. Brad got to work and found out what was needed by the AICM in Arizona.

On Tuesday morning, July 27th, the two school buses pulled into Midwest Mission and our mission volunteers, Midwest Mission staff, and the volunteer bus drivers, Ron Schlatter (Francesville IN) and Andrew Zimmerman (Butler IN) all got busy and stuffed those buses with 100 twin size mattresses, UMCOR Hygiene Kits, UMCOR School Kits and donations from Delta Airlines which included dishes and silverware. The items were valued at approximately $38,000. Ron and Andrew planned to reach their destination at the Indian Reservation in Arizona on Thursday, July 29th.

South Side Christian Church in Springfield IL provides support to the AICM. After learning that there was a lack of face masks and hand sanitizer at the Indian Reservations in Arizona during the peak of COVID19 last winter, Midwest Mission sent a semi truck full of hand sanitzer and face masks to the AICM. They were beyond grateful when they received those items.

Midwest Mission Desk Branding
Midwest Mission has been working on how to brand our desks so that recipients know where their desks came from. Hallalujah and thanks to the Lord we have this resolved! Every desk will be branded with our logo. It is just beautiful!
NOMADS

The NOMADS have been on-site at Midwest Mission from July 12th through the 30th. Our staff held a thank you dinner for them on Wednesday, July 28th.

The NOMADS have worked on several projects during the time they have volunteered at Midwest Mission this summer.

The Brick by Brick pavers have been beautifully re-installed (after the 2020 contstruction project) in the front of our building.

In addition to that project, the NOMADS also dug up and repaired all water hydrants in the campground, rebuilt the entrance to the Storm Shelter and repainted the restrooms in the Kit Room area. They also prepared the Chapel for water and sewer lines and put up walls in the Chapel.

The washer and dryer will be moved up into the Chapel from the Storm Shelter. When completed, the Chapel will have a bathroom with a shower, kitchenette, washer/dryer, television and internet. It will be available to use as additional housing, if needed.

The NOMADS also worked on numerous other projects while they were here. We cannot thank them enough! They are truly the heart and hands of God! May He keep you safe while you travel home or on to another mission.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
COVID-19
Facemasks Recommended

Due to the surging spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19 and the current slump in the number of persons being vaccinated, the CDC has changed its guidelines for wearing facemasks. According to the CDC, facemasks should be worn by all individuals, including the fully vaccinated, while indoors in public spaces in areas with a “substantial” or “high” risk level. Currently, Sangamon County in Illinois is at a “substantial” risk level.

Unfortunately, this means that starting this Sunday, August 1st, facemasks again will be recommended while indoors in a group. Our staff will wear masks when with others outside of their offices. Recommending facemasks will continue as long as the CDC guidelines remain in place AND Sangamon County is at a substantial or high-risk level.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience wearing facemasks may cause, but from the start of this pandemic, Midwest Mission has followed the CDC guidelines and will continue to do so, as they have proven effective in doing the most we can to keep everyone as safe as possible during this pandemic. It is our way of answering God’s call to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Thanks for your cooperation and patience . . . and keep praying for God’s miraculous intervention amid this Covid-19 pandemic.
