Speaking with the Ministry of Government Relations at the Final Convention Session

Tobi Duck is a Municipal Advisor with the Advisory Services Branch at the Ministry of Government Relations. He will be prepared to describe the kinds of issues about which Advisory Services is prepared to provide municipalities with advice. He will also point out the kinds of issues that do not fall within the parameters of Advisory Services. Tobi will speak briefly prior to the longer session from Andrea Ulrich.

Andrea Ulrich is the Director of Legislation and Regulations with the Policy and Program Services Branch at the Ministry of Government Relations. This is what she wrote to PARCS on September 20th:

The policy branch of Government Relations is beginning a preliminary review of the legislative framework regarding property assessment and taxation, specifically whether consolidating the provisions from the three municipal Acts into a new, single Act is worth considering. Currently, these provisions are located within Parts X and XI in each of The Cities Act, The Municipalities Act, and The Northern Municipalities Act, 2010.

The ministry values an efficient and responsive legislative framework. A single Act for taxation and assessment provisions may provide better consistency, make future amendments easier, and simplify the legislation for users and stakeholders.

Your views on potential consolidation are valuable in helping the ministry better understand stakeholder priorities and perspectives. In addition to potential consolidation, we also welcome other suggestions you may have for improvements.

She asks that your convention feedback be provided to BOTH:

 Andrea Ulrich: andrea.ulrich@gov.sk.ca (306-798-6092), and

Alan Williams: alan.williams@gov.sk.ca (306-787-5106), before Oct. 28/22. (due to vacation schedules, please include us both so that your message is not missed).

She states that she is looking forward to ongoing discussions. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact either Alan or Andrea.
