The Washington County Arts Council, Inc. invites local artists working in any medium to submit their best new works for WCAC’s Juried “Annual Community Art Show: The Best Local Art of 2022.” The juried community art exhibit will be on display virtually and in the gallery from December 8, 2022, through January 3, 2023.
Awards are sponsored by the Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment District
and supported by the City of Hagerstown.

He is a frequent traveler with his camera to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, and has recently spent time in New Zealand, Kenya, and Italy. Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is seeking donations for its popular fundraiser, the Treasure Sale, which returns in person this fall. This has been a museum tradition for more than 20 years.
Have you donated your items to the Treasure Sale yet?
The deadline is Saturday, October 15, 2022.
The museum seeks donations in good condition in categories such as antiques, artwork, rugs, china, crystal, men’s and ladies’ fashion accessories, furniture, jewelry, musical instruments, silver, and vintage items.
To donate, call the museum at 301-739-5727 to arrange a time between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Please fill out a donation form before dropping off items, which can be found at wcmfa.org/treasure sale.

More Art of Photography Workshop
On Saturday Sept. 24th from 9:30 am to 5 pm there will be a “More Art of Photography” workshop at Sanctuary Studios hosted by Penny Knobel-Besa with the guest speaker for the day, Nancy Hausrath, specialist in Night Photography. In addition this is a two part workshop, together the group will pick a date for a Night Shoot Field Trip in and around Cumberland.
Topics:
Everything You Wanted to Know About f/stops and shutter speed but were afraid to Ask and Night Photography! Bring Your Camera and tripod. If you need to borrow a tripod let us know in advance. Also tips for shooting commercial photos, for showing and selling your work.

"PAINTING EYES IN OIL" ONLINE DEMO
with Nicole Troup

Join in to watch Nicole Troup paint a demonstration of the eyes in oil. She will discuss her materials and will be explaining her process of creating the form and anatomy of the eye. Nicole will begin the demo with an eye that is partially started in a blocked-in stage and will build on that to bring the eyes to completion. Viewers can ask questions throughout the demo regarding the process, anatomy, and materials. The demo will be online through zoom.

About the Instructor:
Nicole Troup is an American traditional portrait painter working predominately in oil and charcoal. She began creating art at a very young age while taking private art lessons as a child into her teens. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2008, Troup begin a career as a portrait artist and art instructor. After college, she extended her education by studying with acclaimed portrait artist Everett Raymond Kinstler at his workshops in New York.
Troup’s work has been featured in National and International magazines including the American Art Collector, The Guide Artists Magazine, and the Journal of the Portrait Society of America. Her work has also been showcased nationally and locally, winning several awards in national competitions including a finalist in the Portrait Society of America competition. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, among other national organizations.

Don't miss our One Maryland One Book Author Tour with Naima Coster, which begins October 2. What’s Mine and Yours is a multigenerational saga featuring two North Carolina families. They collide in ways that neither is prepared for when Black students from the East side of the county are integrated into the predominantly white schools on the West side. Readers will follow these families over decades as they break apart and come back together.

Berkeley Arts Council Announces Arts Expo 2022
The Berkeley Arts Council announces Arts Expo 2022, a celebration of the arts on October 8, 2022, from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the historic Martinsburg Roundhouse in Martinsburg, WV. Arts Expo 2022 will feature demonstrating artists, musical performances, presentations by various arts organizations and arts activities for all ages to enjoy.
The Arts Expo will include demonstrations by local artists in painting, drawing, woodworking and wood joinery, faux painting, collage, assemblage, metal sculpture, wool felting, Psanky egg painting, comic book making, and more. Watch the artists work, or participate in the making! Musical performances include the Berkeley Community Chorus, Martinsburg High School Strings, and the Apollo Youth Program. Local artist Dan Mace will be telling stories at his demonstration booth.
The program is still shaping up and there will be plenty to enjoy for everyone! Save the date - October 8. Come down to the Martinsburg Roundhouse to meet our local artists and get to know the arts in Martinsburg! The Martinsburg Roundhouse is located at 100 E Liberty Street, Martinsburg, WV 25404. Myths and Lore of Western Maryland
On Friday, October 14th, join the Washington County Historical Society for a Halloween-themed Culture & Cocktails! Featuring author Susan Fair, from the haunting of the Hagerstown clock tower to the Wizard Zittle of South Mountain, this program will highlight the bizarre beasts, odd characters, and unsolved mysteries that make up the legends and lore of Western Maryland.
This month’s featured cocktail is: The Candy Apple! Named for everyone’s favorite caramel snack, this boozy beverage is sure to put you in the mood for Fall. Doors open at 5:30 PM and light hors d' oeuvres will be served!

Walking Tour of Rose Hill Cemetery
by Washington County Historical Society
Join the Washington County Historical Society for a unique walking tour of Rose Hill Cemetery on Saturday, October 15th at 6:00 pm. Another tour date is also on October 22nd; click here!
October provides the chill in the air while Cemetery Director, Colleen Rafferty, provides the chill up your spine as she recounts stories of unsolved mysteries, front page tragedies and other untimely deaths of those buried at Rose Hill.
The tour will run from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. We will gather inside the front gate at Rose Hill Cemetery. Parking is limited so parking on Potomac Street is encouraged.
Limited tickets are available so register early. Only 50 tickets are available for living souls. Countless non-living souls will be in attendance.

The 95th Annual Alsatia Mummers' Parade will kick off on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. After having no Mummers parade for the past two years, this 2022 Alsatia Mummers' parade promises to be special. Philadelphia Bands and Drumlines from Baltimore in addition to a few more surprise appearances will add to the excitement of Alsatians gift to the community. And of course fire trucks, majorettes, floats, and many, many other assorted marching units will fill the air with spirited sounds.

About the Show...
Legend of stage and screen, Frankie Avalon, is set to perform at The Maryland Theatre on Thursday, November 17. Avalon dominated the music charts for years with dozens of popular songs in the 50's and 60's including number one hits "Venus" and "Why". Avalon's string of Gold Record Million-Seller singles and albums included 31 charted hits. In 1959 alone, Frankie had six hits that were in the top 40 and his music became one of the defining sounds of "Pre-Beatles" Rock and Roll. Avalon also achieved fame on the silver screen with his 30 motion picture credits. Most notably, he starred alongside actress Annette Funicello as the romantic leads in the popular Beach Party movies in the 1960's.
