News from Amy Shaffer, Student Activities/Career Center Coordinator, on College-Readiness and Processe
  1. It is not too late for your student to take advantage of this scholarship opportunity through College Board. This is a GREAT chance for them to earn scholarship $$ simply by tracking their steps through the college process. PLEASE sign up soon! Go to cb.org/opportunity to sign up!
  2. Congrats to the seniors who took the SAT on Wed. Results will be released on Oct. 15.
  3. College Visits:
  • FYI: Rhode Island has been added to CT's travel advisory list. Please reach out to the admissions rep if your student has a visit scheduled at a RI college and they are unable to attend.
  • UCONN, Northeastern, BU and NYU have all added additional visits that should accommodate both the red and blue cohort.
  • If students are unable to attend a virtual visit, please visit the college's website, take a virtual tour, contact the college admissions counselor, or make arrangements with Ms. Shaffer to attend an alternate visit. A weekly listing with admission contact names and email addresses is sent out to seniors every week.
  • Tip: The reps running the virtual meetings are often the ones to read applications, so be sure to reach out and make a good impression!
Each year on graduation night, Hall HS senior graduates are treated to a fun filled evening of entertainment , activities, prizes and delicious food. The Hall HS cafeteria is transformed into an amazing chaperoned, substance-free celebration for our graduates from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM.

We continue to add volunteers to our recently established Committees, and we would love to have any many parents of this year’s 393 seniors as possible participate in some way.

Please email us at HallSafeGrad2021@gmail.com to express your interest. We look forward to meeting you.
The Safe Grad Hall Mask portal has been reopened until October 4th.

Inclusion & Anti-Racism Resources
Community of Concern, the joint Hall/Conard/Sedgwick PTO committee, would like to echo the West Hartford Public Schools’ commitment: “We will be actively antiracist in our thoughts, our actions…” and  the powerful voices of our students in the Black Live Matter Rallies.  We believe working to create a more equitable and just society can start by taking meaningful action steps that involve listening, learning, talking to one another, and not staying silent.  Each week we will continue to suggest a meaningful action you can take.

Antiracist Action #7
Watch the #IAMNOTAVIRUS Campaign Team’s recorded webinar series provided by Mike Keo: “Equity in Education,” “He(Art), Trauma, Resilience,” “Inter-Country Adoptee Voices,” and “Blacks & Asian Solidarity.” Think about the experience and voices shared by Asian Americans, Asian and their allies.  Click here: (Community Resources — #IAMNOTAVIRUS).

Dear Hall FAMILIES,
We’d like to remind you about our FERN STREET BACKPACKS program, which provides free weekend food supplies for your in-need students. WHPS high school students are eligible to participate in our in-library program as opposed to our in-school program for students in middle and elementary school. Hall students participating in our program pick up their food bags from either Noah Webster or Faxon Branch libraries each week throughout the school year.

Attached is a flyer about the program. Our program is free of charge and designed for WHPS students who are eligible for the free and reduced meal programs, and those who have difficulty accessing food on Saturday and Sunday.
Please reach out to me directly with any questions. We are ready immediately to help you support the health and well-being of your students.
With thanks,
Katherine Wilson, Coordinator
