VIRTUALLY CELEBRATE THE CLASS OF 2021! |

For the 11th consecutive year 100% of the graduating class has been accepted to college!
While COVID-19 has paused one of our favorite traditions of celebrating each senior as they are accepted to college in front of an audience of parents, friends, family, teachers, and the greater Cristo Rey community, we still seek to honor the Class of 2021's achievements virtually.
We celebrated our students' college acceptances with our final 29 students virtually on YouTube, Wednesday, April 28th, 2021. This was the 4th COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE Ceremony where we were joined by Mr. Nelson as MC, Mr. Haske leading prayer and Mr. Czaia and Ms. Sitzer as our teacher spotlights!

Ms. Youmans always has energy and doesn’t make class boring. She explains the work well and always gives feedback on how to do better next time. Ms. Youmans knows how to make classmates laugh. She motivates me to keep on going. She helps out every student and she loves all of us. One of the best teachers I’ve had.”

10th & 11th Grade Kairos Retreat
This May the classes of 2022 and 2023 will be participating in Retreats at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.
The theme for these retreats is: Cura Personalis.
Cura Personalis is a Jesuit theme, which in Latin means “care for the whole person." At these COVID cautious retreats, the students will honor their bodies, minds, and spirits as we remember how essential it is to care for the whole person here at Cristo Rey!
The Juniors will attend on May 13th and the Sophomores will attend on May 26th. Please keep our students, teachers, and Campus Ministry in your prayers as they prepare for these fun retreats!

Spring activities have started, and the students and staff are adjusting to new protocols brought on by the pandemic at an almost daily rate.
Baseball and softball have played a few games each and continue to improve.
Track has had a momentous start over the course of two track meets, with multiple individual winners on the girls and boys side, and several school records already set in various events.
All the spring sports are seeing a lot of underclassmen playing, which is good for the future of the programs. Robotics is also in full swing as the team gets ready for the sectional competition with the goal of qualifying for the state-wide competition.

“The Robotics coaches Yasiri Nuñez and Micah Ward have been working as coaches for the Robotics club since the beginning of March. Despite the setbacks the team experienced due to COVID, all students in robotics have shown true dedication, passion and community during our meetings!
As a club we were able to meet several times a week with small groups of students who focused on several aspects of the robot which we could problem solve with limited guidance of our engineer mentors!
We are very proud everything we were able to achieve in our limited time of 3 weeks! As coaches we feel very lucky to have students that are so dedicated that they even requested to meet during spring break to continue working until our deadline!
Moving forward to the end of the school year, we wanted to offer students the opportunity to continue engaging in robotics through the creation of individual “battle bots”. These bots will complete against each other for bragging rights at the end of the school year!”

MINNESOTA COVID-19 VACCINE CONNECTOR |

The State of Minnesota has announced the launch of the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector, which is a tool that helps Minnesotans find out when, where and how to get their COVID-19 vaccine.
This system is a proactive way for all Minnesotans to indicate their interest in receiving a vaccine, so that when they become eligible, they can be alerted and connected to resources to schedule a vaccine appointment.
Below is some information about the Vaccine Connector that you may find helpful.
Should I complete the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector form?
All Minnesotans who would like to receive a COVID-19 vaccine should fill out the form to ensure they stay updated on vaccination opportunities in their area when they become available.
Who can get vaccinated now?
In Minnesota, you are eligible now to get vaccinated if you are a:
· Minnesotan age 65 or older
· Health care worker
· Long-term care resident or staff member
· Pre-kindergarten through Adult Basic and Community Education school staff member, or contracted school staff member
· Child care staff member at a licensed and certified child care center or program
How do I sign up?
· Signing up for the Vaccine Connector is easy, safe and secure.
· All Minnesotans 18 years of age and older should sign up, no matter their current vaccine eligibility status.
· There will be no cost and no restricted time period for signing up.
· Health insurance and personal identification forms are not required for signing up.
· Minnesotans unable to sign up online can have family or friends help them sign up online or call 833-431-2053 for assistance signing up over the phone.
· Translation is available by phone in all languages. Minnesotans can call the translation hotlines at 833-431-2053 and 651-318-0989 for assistance signing up over the phone.
· All Minnesotans have to do to sign up is provide basic information such as contact information, demographic data, medical history, and employment to determine their eligibility based on state guidelines.
· The State of Minnesota is committed to the equitable distribution of safe and effective vaccines for protection against COVID-19 and the Vaccine Connector form has included questions about gender identity, sexual orientation, race, cultural identification, and disabilities to help us track and measure equity and fairness throughout the vaccine distribution process. These questions do have the option to select “prefer not to answer” or “none of the above,” and selecting these answers will not prevent you from signing up for the Vaccine Connector.
What happens after I fill out the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector form?
As more vaccine becomes available, the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector will send you updates about your COVID-19 vaccine eligibility and opportunities to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Minnesota.
In the months ahead as vaccine supply increases, the Vaccine Connector will help Minnesotans know where vaccine is in the state, find out when they are eligible to get it, and connect them to a vaccine opportunity near them — no matter where they live or their personal circumstances. Before and after you are vaccinated, it’s important to continue to take simple steps to slow the spread of illness by wearing a mask, staying 6 feet away from others, washing your hands, and staying home whenever possible.
The Vaccine Connector is open to all Minnesotans. Please feel free to share this information with your family, friends and others who may be interested.

STAIRSTEP FOUNDATION G.E.D REFERRAL PROGRAM |

The StairStep Foundation is a faith-based organization that offers many programs that are for the betterment of oneself and the overall community providing access to better educational and economic outcomes. One of the programs that the StairStep Foundation provides is a referral program to community agencies offering courses geared towards receiving a General Education Diploma (G.E.D).
If you are looking for a G.E.D program that is near your home, The StairStep Foundation offers additional programs such as; G.E.D. prep classes, group or individual tutoring, child care while in class, job training, employment readiness, and job placement, the StairStep Foundation can provide information to get you connected. Right now, all of the agencies that have G.E.D programs are offering virtual online courses.
The StairStep Foundation is primarily English speaking however, some of the agencies they partner with that provide G.E.D programs may be offered in other languages or have multilingual staff such as our neighbors Minneapolis Urban Ventures. COVID-19
Housing Assistance Application is Open
Governor Walz announced that up to $100 million of funding will be allocated from the state’s COVID-19 Relief Fund to create a new housing assistance program to help renters that have fallen behind on rent and/or utilities due to COVID-19.
The application OPENED in March.
To see if you qualify for COVID-19 Housing Assistance, begin by filling out the pre-application.

COVID-19 emergency rent and utility bill assistance
If the pandemic has caused you hardship and you need help catching up on your rent or utility bills, you may be eligible for Minnesota’s COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance.
Eligible Minneapolis renters can receive help with rent and utility bills dated on or after March 13, 2020. If you qualify, you could receive up to 15 months of total assistance.
While you can’t be evicted for not paying rent during Gov. Walz’s executive order, rent is still due. When the order is lifted, people owing unpaid rent could be at risk for eviction.

Ayúdennos a mantener la tradición de celebrar en vivo la aceptación a la universidad de los estudiantes de Cristo Rey.
Si bien la pandemia de COVID-19 ha pausado una de nuestras tradiciones favoritas, la de celebrar la aceptación a la universidad de cada estudiante del grado 12 en frente a una audiencia de padres, amigos, familia, maestros y la comunidad de Cristo Rey, deseamos celebrar virtualmente a la Clase de 2021.
Celebramos virtualmente la aceptación de nuestros estudiantes con el grupo final de 29 estudiantes el miércoles 28 de abril por YouTube. Esta fue la cuarta ceremonia de aceptación a la universidad; el Sr. Nelson actuó como maestro de ceremonias, el Sr. Haske nos lideró en la oración, y el Sr. Czaia y la Srta. Me encanta estar en la clase de la Sra. López porque busca la forma de hacerla divertida durante el aprendizaje a distancia y, al mismo tiempo siempre se asegura que estemos aprendiendo el material. Si hablas con ella te podrás dar cuenta lo increíble que es como persona y como maestra”.

Retiro Kairos, grados 10 y 11
Las promociones 2022 y 2023 participarán de retiros en Cristo Rey Jesuit High School durante el mes de mayo.
El tema de estos retiros es: Cura Personalis.
Cura Personalis es un lema Jesuita, que en latín significa “el cuidado de la persona” en su totalidad. En estos retiros, donde observamos todas las precauciones relacionadas con el COVID, los estudiantes harán honor a sus cuerpos, mentes y espíritus mientras recordamos cuán esencial es cuidar a la persona en su totalidad en Cristo Rey .
Los estudiantes del grado 11 asistirán el 13 de mayo y los del grado 10 el 26 de mayo. Rogamos que tengan a nuestros estudiantes, maestros y al personal de actividades pastorales en sus oraciones mientras se preparan para estos retiros tan lindos.

ACTIVIDADES EXTRACURRICULARES |
|
Las actividades de la temporada de primavera han comenzado y tanto los estudiantes como el personal se están adaptando diariamente a los nuevos protocolos generados por la pandemia.
Los equipos de béisbol y sóftbol han jugado algunos partidos y continúan mejorando.
Atletismo (Track) ha tenido también un comienzo muy exitoso durante el transcurso de dos torneos, donde muchos de nuestros los niños y niñas ganaron y nuestra escuela ya ha dejado marca en varios eventos.
Todos los deportes de la temporada de primavera cuentan con muchos estudiantes de los grados más bajos, lo que es bueno para el futuro de los programas.
Robótica está también en plena marcha y el equipo se está preparando para una competencia de sección con el objetivo de calificar para la competencia estatal.

"Yasiri Nuñez y Micah Ward se han estado desempeñando como entrenadores del Club de robótica desde el comienzo de marzo. A pesar de las complicaciones que el equipo ha experimentado debido al COVID, todos los estudiantes en robótica han demostrado una sincera dedicación, pasión y compromiso hacia la comunidad durante nuestras reuniones.
Como club nos hemos podido reunir varias veces a la semana como grupos pequeños de estudiantes que focalizaron en varios aspectos del robot y pudimos resolver problemas con la guía limitada de nuestros ingenieros mentores.
Nos sentimos muy orgullosos de lo que fuimos capaces de alcanzar en un tiempo limitado de 3 semanas. Como entrenadores nos sentimos muy afortunados de contar con estudiantes tan dedicados que incluso pidieron reunirse durante las vacaciones de primavera para continuar trabajando para cumplir con la fecha de entrega.
De ahora en mas y, hasta el final del año escolar, queremos ofrecer a los estudiantes la oportunidad de continuar participando en robótica por medio de la creación de “bots de combate”. Estos bots competirán entre sí para obtener derechos a jactarse al final del año escolar."

CONECTOR DE VACUNA CONTRA EL COVID-19 EN MINNESOTA |

El estado de Minnesota ha anunciado el lanzamiento del Conector de Vacuna Contra el COVID-19, que es una herramienta que ayuda a los residentes de Minnesota a determinar cuándo, dónde y cómo obtener la vacuna contra el COVID-19.
Este sistema es una forma proactiva para que todos los residentes de Minnesota indiquen su interés en recibir la vacuna para que, cuando reúnan los requisitos, puedan recibir su alerta y conectarse a los recursos para obtener un turno de vacunación.
