Pro-Life Torah Behar and Bechukotai

Jewish Pro-Life Foundation Newsletter 15 May 2020 - 21 Iyar 5780

Shabbat Shalom.

Our newsletter today features our blog posts about the Torah portions this week, Behar and Bechukotai, spanning Leviticus 25:1 to 27:34, which complete the book of Leviticus.

Behar means 'at the mountain', emphasizing that the rules for an effective, good life are given to us by the Almighty. They derive their power from spiritual principles, not from science or reason.

Bechukotai asks us to accept these Divine guidelines with complete willingness, living a way of life wholly motivated by Hashem's desire for us to glorify and serve Him. The text describes the positive outcomes when we do, and the severely adverse outcomes when we don't. Baruch HaShen that He reassures us that He will always come to our aid when we are ready to seek His help.
