STUDENT OF THE WEEK
by Audrey Kuffner

Juan Hernandez is our Razorback of the Week for being Caring and a Risk Taker! He believes he was chosen because he is always willing to achieve his goals, and he loves to try new things so he can learn from them. Juan says that his family members are the ones that push him to accomplish his goals as a football player. He enjoys playing all sports, but his true calling is football.
Juan enjoys math because he says its his best class and the easiest subject. His favorite Hogg memory is when the Hogg football team won their first game of the season this year. One tip Juan has to stay successful in virtual learning is that to turn off your electronics because they're going to be a distraction from school work.
Juan has two dogs, one female English Bulldog named Hennessy, and one male Doberman named Diablo. His plan is to attend Texas A&M and become either an engineer, or join the NFL.

Quick Round Favorites:
Candy: Chocolate
TV Show: All American
Book: Percy Jackson
Color: Blue
Game: Call of Duty Warzone
STAFF OF THE WEEK
By Enzo Taverna

Ms. Washington, an 8th grade math teacher is recognized for her IB Learner Profile of being a Thinker! This school year demanded that she must be reasonable while also being creative. In order for her students to be successful, she had to think "outside of the box" for many of the lessons she taught. She says that her mother inspires her the most and is definitely her role model. Her mom is a woman of great integrity and loved by all that know her. Ms. Washington strives to be a great mom to her kids as her mom was to her and her four siblings.

When she first moved to Houston in 2003 from Miami, FL, she worked at Hogg as a 7th grade Math teacher. She left Hogg in 2015, but her love for teaching and working at a campus that put kids first brought her back to the Razorback family. She is looking forward to creating great Razorback memories!

When she is not teaching, she spends her time planning events. She has her own event-planning business! She loves hosting Women Empowerment events and Entrepreneurial events for kids. Ms. Washington’s favorite spot in Houston is City Centre. She loves her family, her husband, her 28-year-old daughter, (who is also a teacher), and her 19-year-old son, (who is in his first year of college at Baylor University).

One of the things that has helped her be successful in virtual learning/teaching is being flexible. Everyday brings a new change, so she adjusts and does the best she can.

COURSE SELECTION 2021-2022
Next week students will begin selecting courses for next year. Students will complete their course selections in homeroom. Students may also complete their course selections from home at the following link Course Selection Form
Check out the Hogg Website for more information.

RETURNING TO CAMPUS?
Grading Cycle 6 begins May 3rd.
We need to know if you plan to have your child virtual or in-person.

Starting next week from April 12th through April 16th, HISD Families may select either in-person or virtual instruction for the 6th six weeks. Parents should make their selection through the HISD Connect Parent Portal under the "Forms" section no later than next Friday, April 16th.

  • If parents would like to keep their selection as-is, no action is needed. The currently selected mode of instruction will carry over.

  • If a change is needed, parents should log in to the HISD Connect Parent Portal and make their new selection by next Friday, April 16th.

  • Parents also can contact their child’s school to change their selection.

Please utilize our helpful step-by-step videos on completing forms or getting started in the Parent Portal.

This process is continuing to ensure campuses can begin planning for physical space, staffing, and scheduling. Once a selection is made, the choice is valid for the remainder school year. There will be additional opportunities to change a selection throughout the year, if desired.

Parents, if you have not already, we need you to fill out this Dismissal Survey so we know how your child goes home.

Also, watch the video below about Hogg's safety protocols by clicking on the image or this link https://vimeo.com/468470483. Help familiarize your child with the campus and where they can find their classes with these maps https://www.houstonisd.org/Page/186362.
