A note from the president project manager

Friends,

Though I normally prefer a more behind-the-scenes role at the Downtown Alliance, I'm happy to bring you this week's note as Joe spends some time on vacation with family.

First off, I want to give a big, downtown welcome to SteppingStone Theatre, who announced this week that they will be merging with Park Square Theatre and sharing their spaces in the Historic Hamm Building. We're thrilled to have their entire team downtown and can't wait to see what these two organizations produce in the coming years.

I also want to congratulate the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce and Midway Chamber of Commerce for reaching the halfway goal towards the We ❤ Saint Paul + We ❤ Midway Fund. Over 700 individuals and more than 50 businesses have contributed over $1,000,000 towards rebuilding our community. Thank to all who have donated so far to reach the halfway point. More exciting news came this week with the launch of both the Ready Together Pledge and the Lowertown Art Market. Keeping reading to learn more about both of these exciting programs that demonstrate our city's commitment to resiliency, safety and supporting small businesses.

Finally, a quick reminder that Lowertown neighbor Desdamona will be the featured artist at tonight's Lowertown Local community gathering. I hope to see some of you (with masks in tow of course!) at Mears.

Saint Paul Downtown Alliance
Take the Ready Together Pledge
Saint Paul is opening carefully to help protect residents and visitors. That’s why local businesses, shops, attractions, hotels, restaurants and more throughout the city are collaborating on a voluntary commitment to cleanliness and safety for reopening.

By referencing CDC guidance and Executive Orders from Governor Walz and Mayor Carter, and collaborating with partners throughout the city, Saint Paul has created a safety pledge for reopening businesses.

Lowertown Art Market kicks off Sunday
Beginning August 16, local artists will be selling their goods on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through September.
 
This weekend's kickoff event will feature 10 local artists selling their one-of-a-kind works of art at the CHS Plaza. 

This event is family friendly. Masks and social distancing are required at the Lowertown Art Market.

Lowertown Local continues this evening
Join us tonight to enjoy an evening in the park with neighbors and friends. 
Lowertown resident Desdamona will be performing.

Mears Park
Thursday, August 13
6-7:30 p.m.

All are encouraged to buy takeout from local businesses or bring a picnic into Mears.

Bring lawn chairs or a blanket. Social distancing must be observed in the park and masks are encouraged. 
Reopened this week
Restaurants, retail and service providers continue to reopen their doors downtown and we couldn't be happier to see it. Here are a few spots that have reopened that you might have missed.
