Conseil d’Ecole Members, Visit from the Mayor
Dear AL Community,

Our first conseil d’école is scheduled for October 20. Click here to view this year’s members, including parent representatives, and their contact information. The CE is an advisory body aiming to foster collaboration between the various school constituents in order to get feedback and share the decision-making process. Please contact your campus representative with any topics that you would like the conseil d’école to discuss.

Today, Mayor Lucas had lunch with some of our 7th graders. Students had fun chatting with the mayor and learning how the Kansas City government works. This event was an Evening in Paris auction prize from 2020 that had to be postponed due to the pandemic. A big thank you to the Kalahurka family for bidding on this and to Nicole Kube for coordinating the event.

Remember our annual raffle event is on its way. We encourage every family to participate and raise money for our school!

Have a great weekend.

K-5 Fall Parties Information
Fall Parties are coming up on October 31. This is a casual day, and students can BRING their costumes to change before the parade and parties. A few reminders about costumes:
1. Nothing gory, bloody, or violent, no weapons, no masks.
2. Please make sure the costume is simple enough for students to change into themselves. We have limited time and bathrooms, so we need kids to be able to get ready quickly without having to strip down completely. 😀

Costume Parade (2:00 pm)
New this year: we will be having a costume parade for parents (and grandparents/siblings) to come see all the students in their costumes. Stay tuned for more information about the location- campus details may differ, and it may depend on the weather. After the parade, parents will exit. Dismissal will be at 3:45 pm as usual.

Parties (2:30 pm)
After the costume parade, students and room parents will return to the classroom for the parties. Due to space, we cannot invite parents or others to the parties. Parties are for the teacher, students, and room parents only. Food will be organized by the room parent in accordance with our snack policy. Sweets will be allowed in moderation.

Thank you for your support in making school events safe and fun for students!

You can also access ManageBac from the front page of our website.
BeautifyAL: Oak Campus Update
Hello Oak Families!

As the end of the 2022 year is approaching, the BeautifyAL Oak Committee is hoping to accomplish one more larger-scale project on the grounds of AL for the year. An outdoor seating conversation set and outdoor dining set were added this summer for the teachers, staff, and parents to enjoy. Currently, there is a green outdoor rug under the outdoor dining set. The committee's goal is to pull the rug and purchase larger-scale paver stones in order to make the space more stable, level, durable and attractive.

A fellow AL parent, who is a landscape architect, has offered to do the labor for free, but funds are still needed for purchasing the paver stones & materials. The BeautifyAL Oak committee is a parent-volunteer and donation-based committee. A RallyUp page has been created for donations to go directly toward the beautification process. If you would like to donate to the BeautifyAL Oak projects, please click here. Your support & generosity are greatly appreciated!

Oak 3rd-4th Grade Robotics Club
Come build Lego vehicles using schematics and automate their movement using a straightforward programming language developed by Lego for use in the classroom.

When: The club will meet directly after school until 5 pm on Mondays from October 17 to December 5.

Who: Any 3rd or 4th Grade Oak student. The club is run by parent volunteers Chris Canipe, Olivier Griot, and Rachel Moyer. This first fall session will have 12 seats.

Cost: $75/student. We’ll provide the Lego sets, laptops, and a snack. (Limited scholarships may be available, please inquire if needed)

Signup: If you have questions, or to sign up to be in the lottery for a seat, email oak.robotics.club@gmail.com by October 9.
Adopt a Family for the Holidays
The holidays are still two months away but it is never too early to start organizing our annual adopt-a-family program. Please complete this form to let the social workers know how many family members you are willing to adopt. Typically, each family member is given presents or a gift card amounting to $50. In a few weeks, we will follow up with the process for sending gifts or monetary donations. Thank you for supporting our community!
ALIHS Shadowing
The ALIHS staff and students would like to invite 8th graders to visit the high school. Students who sign up will come upstairs to shadow at ALIHS for a couple of hours during the regular school day. Within a week of completing this form, you will receive an email with your assigned shadow day and time as well as information about where to meet. Students will miss several 8th grade classes while shadowing and will be responsible for making up any missed work.

Questions? Contact Liz Seely, LPC, lseely@academielafayette.org.
