CURRENT SERMON SERIES

When Nicodemus approached Jesus, he came in the cover of darkness. The woman at the well describes an encounter between a Samaritan woman and Jesus at the brightest time of the day. Regardless of the time, they both encounter the light of the world that has come into the world. As this story unfolds, we hear about worship. Worshipping the Creator God in both spirit and in truth. The invitation is to respond like this woman. Many Samaritans believed because of the testimony of this woman. She had tasted the Living Water, and now she will never thirst again.

Yours in Christ,

Brandon

PREPARING FOR ADVENT

We will be sponsoring the Mitten Tree again this year for our annual contribution to Good Samaritan. It will be placed in the side entry beginning on Sunday, November 27th for convenience and so everyone can enjoy seeing the new items being added week by week. The deadline for giving will be Sunday, December 18th. That's not a lot of time, but we know that you will be generous. Everyone is welcome to bring your items and place on the tree. We are looking for scarves, hats, socks, and, of course, gloves and MITTENS.

We are also looking for volunteers to assist with the lighting of the Advent Wreath each Sunday during Advent and on Christmas Eve. If you would like to participate, contact the church office and we can provide you with the script in advance. Thanks.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

The early beginnings of our pollinator garden. The ground was broken

and so amazing as to how far we have come.

GREEN SPACE

Johnson Outdoors—an outdoor recreation and sporting goods company—and the National Wildlife Federation have partnered to launch the Clean Earth Challenge, a trash-collecting competition with a goal to improve the environment by cleaning up 1 million pieces of waste. Individuals or groups can register online to compete in the challenge and track their trash collection using the Clean Earth Challenge website or the Litterati app. The top 10 collectors will appear on a leaderboard.

The website also provides resources for organizing a cleanup, including checklists, safety guides, and templates for fliers and social media posts. In addition, there are resources for schools participating in NWF's Eco-Schools USA program such as educational materials for students and microgrants to fund cleanups. NWF also organized several cleanups. One was at its Earth Tomorrow Summer Institute in Atlanta, a weeklong leadership and environmental advocacy program for high school students. Another was at Great Falls Park in McLean, Virginia, where the team picked up more than 1,000 pieces of trash.    (GSN #123)

Mornings with Bonhoffer: 100 Reflections on the Christian Life

By Donald K. McKim

(242/MCK)

“No priest, no theologian stood at the cradle of Bethlehem. And yet, all Christian theology finds its beginnings in the miracle of miracles, that God became human.”

These stirring words are just a sample of the wisdom found in this collection of 100 devotions that guide and inspire us. Mornings with Bonhoeffer provides an acute understanding of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s theological perspectives, helping us to reflect on what his thoughts can mean for faith and the Christian experience. Short excerpts from Bonhoeffer’s letters and passages from his sermons, paired with the daily devotions, offer timeless and moving reminders of God’s love for humanity speaking to the “head” and “heart” of theological understanding and personal faith.

Dr. Donald K. McKim brings Bonhoeffer to life in this beautiful devotional that provides understanding of often misunderstood, multifaceted writings as well as an inside look at the imperfect man behind the saintly image. The result is a heartrending portrait that provides Bonhoeffer’s true insights, as well as insight into the faith that sustained and redeemed him.
