Please Help Keep the Church Records Updated!
Please take a moment to review your contact information that was printed last year in the 2019 phone directory. If information is outdated, please provide updates and/or changes as needed (e.g. new address(es), new email, new contact numbers, new family members added, family members who have moved away, etc.). Click here to submit updated information using an online form. Paper forms will be available in the church narthex.

You're Invited!
Our St. Paul family is invited to Lydia Schultz's graduation party on Friday, July 10, 2020, beginning at 4:00pm. Come whenever you like and stay however late you would like. As we come to another last in our household, we are struck with how important our church family is to us. Please allow us the opportunity to say thank you for being a part of the lives of our kids! We hope you can make it! -- David & Heidi Schultz

Save the Date
We'll try again to explore In Our Backyard on July 24 with a trip to a local Hosta farm and lunch afterwards. See the newsletter and future bulletin announcements for more details.

Alaska Mission Trip
Due to the cancellation of flights and the many restrictions, we moved the date for this year's mission trip to the week of July 20th instead of June. We are praying for a smooth entrance into Alaska as they have some pretty strict guidelines for people coming in. Due to the craziness of the last several months, we were unable to do our last fundraiser for the trip. If anyone would like to donate to this ministry, you may earmark the donation here at church to Alaska Mission or you may send it directly to Alaska. The address for that is Cooper Landing Community Lutheran Church; c/o Ladonna Herbert; PO BOX 518; Cooper Landing, Alaska 99572.  Thank you for your continued support!!!

ALL ABOARD! St. Paul Moving to At-Home On-Line VBS This Summer!
Since we didn't know that we could say "Yes" to this summer, the Youth Board and VBS Directors decided to move to an At-Home On-Line alternative to our annual VBS program. Here's how it will work:
  • Register your kids, aged preschool to going-into-5th-grade. You can register at https://vbspro.events/p/events/stpaulbaycity
  • Registered families will receive a take-home kit with 5 days of Bible story material and fun activities for each registered child. This material will be available for pick up the first Sunday in July (7/5/2020).
  • Take home kits will include instructions to access the online material which will includes videos of our opening Sing & Play Express, Bible Adventures, Imagination Station, and Kid Vid Cinema, as well as our "Rocky Wrap-up" closing.
  • Each family can make use of each day's and each child's material as you see fit. You can do one-a-day for a week, or spread them out over the whole summer!
If you would like to have this material prepared for your child, please register ASAP at https://vbspro.events/p/events/stpaulbaycity. Be sure to tell us the ages of your children as there are some different materials for the very youngest students. DON'T DELAY! The train is leaving the station, and there are limited seats on board! (Seriously, we have a fixed number of kits, so register soon!).

9th Annual JME Memorial Run/Walk
Please join us for a morning of exercise, fellowship and remembrance - Our Annual JME Memorial Run/Walk will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020. We are keeping up to date on the current Covid-19 situation. Any adjustments or cancellation to this event may need to occur if we are following governmental recommendations and requirements. Here is our tentative plan: Students, ages 10 and under, can participate in the ¼ mile run at 9:00 and will receive a medal for participation. The 1 mile and 2 mile run/walk will begin at 9:15. All races will begin on Ziegler Rd (just next to the Church). Registration forms are available at the back of the church, in the school office, and on our website ( stpaulbaycity.org/news-events-registration). Registration deadline is August 31st to guarantee a race t-shirt. T-shirts are also available for purchase for $10.00 even if you are not running or walking. Please fill out a form to purchase a shirt. We would love to have you attend for a great morning of fellowship. No refunds will be processed if the event is cancelled. Thank you for your continued support of this event. We hope to see you on Sept. 12th!

Help Us Continue to Show Love and Appreciation to our Construction Crew
Thank you for the donations for the construction crew! We have plenty of granola bars, but we could use donations of individual packages of crackers (cheez its, etc...), small packages of nuts, small bags of chips, or other salty treats. We could also use more donations of Powerade/Gatorade. Items can be left in the back of church. If anyone would be willing to help with this project, we could use a couple more people willing to put ice in the coolers first thing in the morning or fill the coolers in the evening. It is not hard! Contact Matt 415-4068 or Heidi 450-0975. Thank you for your help in showing love and appreciation to these workers!

Thank You for Your Prayers
Your prayers for my cousin Willard have been very much appreciated by myself and other family members. Willard passed away June 14 after a long struggle with cancer. Thank you, Ken Van Cise

Orphan Grain Train Michigan Accountability
As a Christian charitable mission it is vital all activities of Orphan Grain Train be thoroughly transparent and in public good standing. We are gratified that on April 1 Orphan Grain Train received the highest possible rating, a perfect 100 ranking for financial, accountability, and transparency from Charity Navigator the premier non-partisan evaluator of non-profit agencies. Orphan Grain Train strives to maintain a spotless reputation. Moreover, in 2019, Orphan Grain Train allocated only 1.7% of its revenue to administration or marketing. 98.3% of funding is devoted directly to support of our Christian humanitarian projects. Locally, the Michigan branch of OGT applies 100% of its charitable funding to the mission itself. All volunteering and leadership is entirely unpaid except for the personal reward of freely serving those in need. We strive to be impeccable with all donations whether material or financial and are happy to report all information regarding the work. See ogt.org or ogt-mi.blogspot.com.

Stewardship
Matthew 10:42 -- "And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward." The tithes and offering you give to the Lord's work in His church go to supporting all manner of discipleship. They provide for a minister of the Gospel to preach, teach, and conduct the Sacraments; they provide for our missionaries and ministries of mercy here and abroad; and they make sure that the folks in your area have a place to go to worshi p the Lord. The Lord is pleased with this work, and He wants to bless you through supporting it. STEWARDSHIP - A way of life

Trinity Time
Have you thought about entering church work? Although Concordia University Ann Arbor's annual Trinity Time retreat will not be held in person this year, a panel Q&A on church work vocations will be offered through a Zoom Webinar on Monday, July 13, from 7-8:30 p.m. Although Trinity Time is usually geared toward high school students, this webinar would be a great opportunity for anyone who is considering church work as a calling. With alumni and faculty in the areas of family life ministry, Lutheran education, parish music, deaconess ministry, and pastoral ministry, registrants will be able to ask questions about the work of ministry, life at Concordia University Ann Arbor, or studying church work. For those who cannot attend live, a recording will be available later. Questions can be emailed to Theodore.Hopkins@cuaa.edu ahead of time or asked live during the event. There is no cost to register or attend this event. Visit https://www.cuaa.edu/events/details.php?id=35081 to register.

Old Testament Reading
Jeremiah 28:5–9
5Then the prophet Jeremiah spoke to Hananiah the prophet in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD, 6and the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May the LORD do so; may the LORD make the words that you have prophesied come true, and bring back to this place from Babylon the vessels of the house of the LORD, and all the exiles. 7Yet hear now this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people. 8The prophets who preceded you and me from ancient times prophesied war, famine, and pestilence against many countries and great kingdoms. 9As for the prophet who prophesies peace, when the word of that prophet comes to pass, then it will be known that the LORD has truly sent the prophet.”

Epistle
Romans 7:1–13
1Or do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law is binding on a person only as long as he lives? 2Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. 3Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.
4Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. 5For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. 6But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.
7What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. Apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. 11For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
13Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.

Holy Gospel
Matthew 10:34–42
34[Jesus said:] “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. 37Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
40“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. 41The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
