Spring 2020
Message from Enable CEO Lisa Coscia
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our Enable staff for doing a fantastic job of maintaining and even exceeding expectations during this incredibly challenging time. From our administrative to our essential front line Direct Support staff, I am forever thankful, for your commitment and dedication in making sure that the men and women in our care are well taken care of and kept calm and entertained during this period of uncertainty.

COVID-19 will not stop our commitment to the men and women we serve at Enable. Those who depend on us most cannot wait for “normalcy” to arrive. We will not rest while our consumers still rely on us 24/7. Our efforts to provide adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, with assistance in managing daily living activities will continue with temporary adjustments to comply with local and national authorities.

We are not sitting idle and never will. Please consider making a donation to Enable so that we may continue to provide seamless services to our beneficiaries during this uncertain time. Even in times of crisis, our work is so desperately needed and your support is appreciated now more than ever.

Thank you for your consideration.

New Enable Video
We are so excited to launch our new short video that tells the story of our wonderful agency. Please take a few minutes to watch and see our staff and consumers in action. A big thank you to the video production company AmpiFly for creating our video pro-bono.
Autism Awareness Month
April is Autism Awareness Month and typically, Enable acknowledges the month by participating in various community activities such as volunteer bagging in Shop Rites. Unfortunately, we could not do that this year, however, staff and consumers in our group homes still celebrated World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd by participating in the Light It Up Blue campaign.
Enable Staff News
Above & Beyond

On March 18th, the Department of Developmental Disabilities closed all day programs in the state of NJ. Enable currently runs four day programs, providing service to 94 men and women. These consumers, some with significant behavioral and medical issues are now sheltering in place at their group homes.
Enable has 23 residential group homes located throughout Central NJ. With consumers being home 24/7, we need to make sure the houses are fully staffed at all times.

There are several staff, from three particular group homes, that have gone above and beyond during this time of crisis. Three of our homes had been quarantined for possible exposure to Covid-19. Thankfully, all testing came back negative and the staff and consumers were cleared, however prior to receiving the results, Enable had six staff that were quarantined to a group home for a period of 5-7 days.
We asked each of them to stay in the home with the consumers and all of them said yes. Not one person complained. We even had an additional staff person come in knowing that the house was under quarantine. One of the homes was a home for medically fragile non-ambulatory individuals who are on feeding tubes and catheters. Normally, group home shifts are 8 hours, these individuals worked round the clock with very little sleep. One staff even missed his son's 4th birthday. Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are the backbone to agencies such as Enable. These six individuals really stepped up in a big way and we are so thankful for their hard work and dedication to our consumers.
Making Do - A Hairdo that is!

I'm sure many can relate to the trial and tribulations this pandemic has had on our hair. The staff at Enable is not immune. Enable's VP of Clinical Services, Mike DeGasperis decided enough was enough and had Enable's Director of Business Development, Robyn Steinman clip his long locks. While both had a lot of fun, Robyn has decided to keep her day job and is no longer accepting appointments!

Volunteer Corner - Hun School of Princeton
Normally at this time, we would be sharing with you the fun filled photos of our consumers enjoying the annual dance, generously put together and held at the Hun School of Princeton. Social distancing prevented us from being able to get together in-person, but it did not stop the fun! Thank you to faculty member Lynn McNulty and Hun students who put together a fun afternoon dance party via Zoom for the consumers in our group homes. The first one was held on May 6th with students Sofia, Arianna and Abby. The second dance will take place on May 20th. Here are some photos and videos from the festivities.
The students and faculty of Hun promises that as soon as it is safe, they will hold the 10th Annual dance for Enable.
Consumers At Home
Enable staff have been keeping the consumers occupied with various activities during the Governor's stay at home orders.
Another way to support our organization is to shop with Amazon Smile and select Enable as your charity.
