COSTCO SUBMITS SITE PLAN FOR NEW LOCATION IN RIVERTON
Costco Wholesale submitted a formal commercial site plan application for a proposed location in Riverton on June 19, 2020. The application comes following months of close coordination between Costco, city officials and the property owner. The proposed location is at the northeast corner of 13200 S and Mountain View Corridor, just north of Mountain View Village.

“We are excited to see Costco submit a site plan application for a new Riverton location,” said Mayor Trent Staggs. “We have been actively working with Costco for many months and are pleased to see them moving forward. This development will benefit the citizens of Riverton for years into the future, not just for the great products and services Costco provides, but due to the sales tax revenue that will be generated­­.”
RIVERTON CITY INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT ON PROPOSED UPDATES TO GENERAL PLAN
The Riverton City Planning Commission has proposed an updated land use element map as part of the city's general plan.

Riverton City now invites the public to comment on the map and provide any desired feedback. Comments will be provided to the City Council as they consider updates to the general plan.

Comments are due by Tuesday, July 14 .

Given the current environment caused by COVID-19, the Riverton City Council has postponed Town Days until September. Mark your calendars with the following dates:

Riverton City is seeking both vendors and sponsors for Riverton Town Days and the Riverton Rodeo, which have been rescheduled for September!

FIREWORK DATES OF LEGAL DISCHARGE & RESTRICTIONS
Please remember that the legal dates to discharge fireworks are two days before, the day of and one day after both Independence Day (July 4) and Pioneer Day (July 24). It is illegal to set off fireworks outside of these dates without a permit.

Please also keep in mind that firework use is restricted in certain areas of Riverton, including: area east of 1300 W to the Jordan River, canal corridors, Midas Creek channel and Rose Creek channel.
RIVERTON CITY PUBLISHES WATER CONSUMER CONFIDENCE REPORT FOR 2019

FREE CULINARY WATER TESTS AVAILABLE FOR QUALIFYING HOMES
The Riverton City Water Department will be testing culinary water in homes free of charge in the month of September to measure lead and copper levels, as required by the state every three years. The sample is a non-contact process and department employees don’t even have to enter homes. If you’d like to participate in the free testing, your home must meet the following criteria:

  • Single family home built between 1982 and 1988.
  • The home must have original water piping (which would be copper piping with lead solder or lead service lines).

If you qualify and would like to participate or if you have questions regarding whether your home qualifies, please contact Ken Saldivar at ksaldivar@rivertonutah.gov or 801-208-3142.

The deadline for test scheduling is July 10, 2020.  Schedule early, as the demand is high and there are a limited number of test spots available.
JUNE 30 PRIMARY ELECTION IS BY MAIL ONLY
Voting in the primary election on June 30 is by mail only. No in-person polling stations will be available due to COVID-19. Ballots can be mailed in OR dropped off at a ballot drop box. Mailed in ballots must be postmarked on or before election day. A ballot drop box is located in the south parking lot at Riverton City Hall at 12830 S Redwood Road.

SMALL BUSINESS IMPACT GRANTS OFFERED BY SALT LAKE COUNTY
Salt Lake County has launched the Small Business Impact Grant program to assist small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Criteria for the program includes:

  • Be based in Salt Lake County
  • Employ fewer than 100 employees
  • Not have already received federal, state or local COVID-19 financial aid
  • Provide documents verifying your financial loss
  • Have operated prior to Jan. 1, 2020
  • Be primary industries impacted directly by public health order closures*

CITY COUNCIL APPROVES FISCAL YEAR 2020-2021 BUDGET
The Riverton City Council approved the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget for the city on June 16. The city's strategic priorities were used as the basis for crafting the budget. Two items to note:

  • The budget does anticipate a 5% decline in sales tax revenue from original projections due to impacts of COVID-19.

  • Sanitation fees will be raised by $1 per garbage tote per month to offset costs passed on from the trash hauler, effective July 1.
RIVERTON CITY SEEKS DONATIONS OF HISTORICAL ITEMS FOR NEW DISPLAY CABINETS
Riverton City seeks donations of items of historical significance related to Riverton’s history prior to 1960. Items will be displayed in new cabinets dedicated to the city’s history at the Sandra N. Lloyd Community Center.

Donations can be dropped off at the Riverton City Recorder’s Office at 12830 S Redwood Road.

12600 S Resurfacing Project
UDOT has begun work to resurface the 12600 S to improve smoothness and extend the life of the roadway from Bangerter Highway to State Street in Draper.
