4-H Way: "Message from Mary"
Mary Ciricillo, Director of California 4-H Foundation
Leadership is a key component to 4-H programming, and it has shined brighter than ever over the past six months.

Despite unprecedented obstacles, 4-H’ers continue to lead our communities and engage fellow youth by conducting virtual workshops, teaching families how to communicate online, support online auctions, host photo contests, participate in animal science and STEM programming, and answer a call to action by making masks for front-line workers in need.

California 4-H staff and volunteers continue to lead our youth -- engaging them in virtual club meetings, yoga, embryology lessons, and virtual camp!

You, our 4-H alumni and supporters continue to lead by providing the financial support needed to keep the largest youth development program in the nation moving forward. Because of you over $1.15M in gifts was raised through the California 4-H Foundation last year. 100% of your gifts directly supported your local 4-H programs and statewide initiatives. Please take a moment and enjoy the California 4-H Annual Report showcasing the wonderful accomplishments that your generosity helped achieve.

California 4-H is more relevant than ever. Thank you for helping us to keep 4-H moving forward.

4-H Makes Shields for Heroes
In an effort to help their community to control the spread of COVID-19, a Silicon Valley brother and sister came up with a plan to support health care personnel.

With people across the country cranking out masks, they wanted to buy face shields. At $8 each online, they quickly learned that they could not afford to buy very many.

Determined to find a way to help, they decided to see if they could design and make the face shields for less.

Wearing a mask decreases the possibility of droplets contacting your face → less contamination → less sick people → less patients → less contamination to doctors and nurses who do not have enough PPE gear to protect themselves at this moment.

These two 4-H members created a design that is very simple. The face shield will provide full coverage of the face from ear to ear, in addition to the face masks that you are using. Not only is this a low-cost alternative, but the face shield is also reusable, adjustable, comfortable, doesn't fog, and can be sanitized using alcohol or any antibacterial solution.

Stay safe and stay healthy.
Do You Have a 4-H Highlight Story to Tell?
4-H youth and volunteers across our state amaze us with their accomplishments. If you know a 4-H youth, volunteer, or donor that deserves their moment in the sun, please share their story! You might read about them here--and inspire others!

4-H Programming: Looking Ahead
The State 4-H Office has moved all of its programming to a virtual format until further notice. The priority is ensuring the safety of the young people in the 4-H program, their families, and our community.

California 4-H at Home  is a new site created to share 4-H activities youth can do from home, either online or offline. Updates on the status of statewide and national events will also be on that site.

For the status of county-based programming, please check with your University of California Cooperative Extension County office.
