Alumni recall Emancipation Day celebrations of the past

Events celebrate Black History

The UWindsor Alumni Association has planned two events to celebrate Black History Month.

Our Black Experience is a panel discussion, hosted by Dwania Peele BSc '11, BA '11, and features Tamara Lopez, BA '04, Brian Danso, BComm '12 and Osi Nriagu, BComm '05, BEd '07. The discussion will be held virtually on February 25 from 3-4 p.m.

Celebrating Excellence is a conversation between Bryant McBride and Jermain Franklin BA '90. Bryant was the first Black executive with the NHL and producer of the movie Willie. Jermain is an anchor at TSN's SportsCentre and graduate of the Communications Studies program. They will discuss the documentary on hockey legend Willie O’Ree. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary viewing of the movie. This discussion will be held virtually on February 26 from 3-4 p.m.

International Women’s Day Event: #ChooseToChallenge

Join us for the Keynote International Women’s Day event on Ten Thousand Coffees on March 5 at 1:30 p.m. (ET)

Learn from industry professionals Bridget King (IBM), Vicki Ng (adidas), Kelly Pereira (RBC), and Elaine Rocha (AIG) as they share how they’ve propelled their careers into positions of leadership. The event will be moderated by Wahab Owolabi (Facebook).

Christee Palace - What Have You Done to Me (Official Music Video)

Alumna releases new single

Singer-songwriter Christee Palace BA' 15 released her newest single, What Have You Done To Me in January. Her music video, shot in quarantine, followed shortly thereafter.

The emotionally charged video demonstrates the detrimental consequences of giving in to a love that only takes. The moody video includes quick pops of imagery, reversed footage, and dreary colours. Watch the video.

Book chronicles MacLeod's work

In his latest book, Alistair MacLeod: A Literary Companion, alumnus Corey Evan Thompson MA '01 seeks to offer general readers and advanced students of Canadian literature an introductory overview of the life and writings of the Canadian novelist and short story author Alistair MacLeod.

The book offers an encyclopedic account of all of MacLeod’s writings, including publication history and plot synopsis. and highlights aspects of his life and work. Available for purchase on Amazon.
