NEW POSTAL MUSEUM OPENS IN IRAN
There are many postal museums around the world. The latest one to open is in Tabriz, Iran in the 200-year-old Mojtahediha Mansion (pictured here).
Back in February, Iran’s first Post-Museum School opened in Rasht.
This new museum aims at educating children in various fields of communication and media as well as promoting the culture of the post by holding communication courses and classes.
A second Post-Museum School is also scheduled to be inaugurated soon in Delgan.
It was in 1868 that the government of Iran first started to produce its own stamps often called the “lion and sun” stamps (below). This was twenty-eight years after the first postage stamps in the world were issued in Great Britain.
The Nasser al-Din Shah Qajar’s who reigned from1848-1896 developed the postal system in Iran. He was inspired by the reported successes of a postal system in many regions, so he decided to send a group to France to study the system and launch it in Iran.
