Help Curb the Spread of Illness

No matter the time of year, everyday preventative lessons should be shared with children to help prevent the spread of germs at home and in the classroom. Now more than ever, Virginia PTA and Lysol® want to remind parents, teachers and students to practice healthy habits. From staying home whenever possible, to washing your hands often, there are many ways to help prevent the spread of germs.

Here are some simple steps you can take to continue practicing healthy habits:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public space, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Put distance between yourself and other people whether or not COVID-19 is spreading in your community.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. Throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks.
