ROAR: Reminders
2020 e-Ceremonies and Celebrations
COVID-19 restrictions have challenged our community to think differently about the ways we will honor the traditions of our end-of-year ceremonies and celebrations, but we will still "come together" to witness all the accomplishments for which our students have worked so hard. We extend a warm invitation to all students, parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, friends, neighbors, and the new families who will join the Kodiak community in the fall to join us for any of our year-end ceremonies and celebrations.

Help Us Send off Aaron Schubach and His Family
You're invited to campus on Tuesday, May 26, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for a drive-by honoring of Aaron Schubach's leadership and to offer best wishes to his family. More details to follow. While wish we could gather in a large setting for this special occasion, COVID-19 restrictions prevents it for safety reasons.

The Head of School Transition Team is working to ensure  a strong Head of School transition. The team's  first efforts are to wish Mr. Schubach a fond farewell and offer an enthusiastic welcome to Tambi Tyler. Mr. Schubach concludes his leadership tenure on June 12, 2020, and Ms. Tyler begins as the school's 10th Head of School on July 1, 2020. 4th Annual CSS Biological Research Conference
Since January, CSS biology students have been planning and conducting biological research experiments of their own design. They began by identifying a topic of interest, brainstorming materials they could easily access, and formulating a question they could reasonably answer through an experiment. From there, students conducted background research, devised a method to test their hypothesis, carried out the experiment, repeated the experiment to make adjustments and increase validity, analyzed the data, and conducted further research in order to better interpret & apply their results. Finally, modeling what happens in academia, they formatted their work into a scientific poster for display at this year's conference. The students are looking forward to sharing their work with each other, their parents, and scientists from the community. Thank you for being a part of it!

CSS Summer Camps for 2020 Cancelled
The Colorado Springs School has been providing summer camp experiences for more than 30 years. While we were looking forward to offering various camps this summer, we have cancelled all summer camps for 2020 as a safety precaution due to COVID-19. Please email Ann Runte at [email protected] for additional information.
Faces of CSS: Learn About Our Faculty & Staff
What is a favorite memory at CSS? It is hard to choose one favorite memory! Some of my favorite memories are from seminars and chaperoning Middle School events. My first Game Night, I was racing around with the kids on Boddington Field in the dark and playing capture the flag with glow sticks, and then for the Middle School Overnight, I was playing games at night in the gym and sleeping in the Trianon. I saw then how creating experiences for the students, from simple to elaborate, is what CSS is all about. -Thalley Lindeman, Middle School Math

What is one thing you enjoy about CSS? I love the community. The students, faculty, staff, and parents are all so supportive, and it feels like my family. -Amanda Abrahams, Middle & Upper School French

What did you want to be growing up? I always wanted to be a teacher. I had a little chalkboard in my bedroom growing up and used to teach my stuffed animals every day! -Jolly Cunha, Kindergarten

Teammates for Life: Leggatt K. '20 and Kyle J. '20
Seniors Leggatt K. and Kyle J. have been sharing the soccer field since 6th grade when they both suited up for the Kodiaks. The two redheads with mad dribbling skills caused havoc for their opponents, utilizing their speed and tenacity to get the job done, no matter the circumstances. Click here to read more.
Senior Spotlight: Congratulations, Autumn C. '20!
How has CSS prepared you for a dynamic world? CSS has prepared me for uncertainty and opportunity. Even with my recent ECS in Spain cut short with many, many changed plans, CSS has taught me the beauty of the unknown, which I'm sure there will be plenty of in my future.

Senior Spotlight: Congratulations, Luke T. '20!
What passion did CSS help you discover or further explore?  The passion for adventure and exploration. Throughout my time at CSS, I have been on many seminars, Experience-Centered Seminars, and other opportunities to explore new things. CSS has helped me further explore my thirst for adventure and doing and seeing new things.

Senior Spotlight: Congratulations, Abrielle S. '20!
During your entire time at CSS, who has been the faculty or staff member that had a significant impact on your life? Mr. Wolfe has had a significant impact on me as he has helped me find what art forms I'm passionate about and has pushed me to try more difficult things that I wouldn't have tried otherwise.

Senior Spotlight: Congratulations, Peixi "CiCi" J. '20!
Give a shout-out to that person/people who made your CSS story possible. My family back in China always supports me. Teachers here gave me the courage to step outside of my comfort zone. All people at CSS gave me a strong sense of a close-knit community. Thank you, all.

Adopt a CSS Senior Facebook Group
Amy Kunstle P'17, P'21, launched a parent-driven initiative for our CSS community known as "Adopt a Senior." It is a closed Facebook group modeled after similar groups and is dedicated to showering the Class of 2020 seniors with encouragement and care packages during this time of shared loss. We wanted everyone to know about this heartfelt and authentic opportunity to connect. We invite the CSS community to "adopt" a senior to show support. Perhaps your kindergarten student is buddies with a senior. Anyone can adopt a senior! The strength of our community is showing up in so many beautiful ways, and this is yet another shining example of what it means to be #KodiakStrong!

ROAR: Requests
Alumna Requests Bed Sheet Donations
Alumna Requests Bed Sheet Donations for Nursing Facilities
Alumna Amber McClish-Strover '04 has reached out to the CSS community to request donations of bed sheets to help with shortages of personal protection equipment (PPE). Amber is Director of Admissions at Life Care Center of Colorado Springs, which operates nursing care centers. They are currently in "outbreak mode" because they have active COVID-19 cases.

Life Care Center is collecting full size and larger bed sheets, both fitted and top sheets, that will be sewn into gowns that can be washed as a way to help combat the shortage of PPEs. All color/pattern sheets are welcome, but please no sheets with holes.

You may also donate bed sheets directly to Life Care Center, 2490 International Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. If you are a sewer, they could use your help turning sheets into gowns. Please contact Ann Petit at [email protected] if you would like to help.
