CEO Corner
Happy summer!

While your family enjoys the much needed quality time together, I want to encourage you to keep your students engaged as learners.

  • Continue to encourage your child/children to read at least 20 minutes a day.
  • On your staycations and/or vacations, make time to read about the history of the places you visit together as a family.
  • Talk about the engineering and innovative thinking required to create the many things you get to explore this summer (amusement parks, swimming pools, airports, train stations, etc.).
  • Involve your children in planning and reflection.
  • Create photo presentations using PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi, Keynote, etc.
  • Have your children keep a journal of their summer activities.

As plans for next year are solidified, we will share the necessary information with you via email. No matter what the future may hold, the dedication of our teaching staff, the cooperation of our parents, and the support of our PTO and community made this year a success.

We wish you safe travels and an abundance of joy, laughter and love this summer with your family. Life is short and tomorrow is not promised, so please spread kindness and enjoy this time together.

All the best,
Angela Sugarek

Sixth Grade Teachers Get "Pied"
Mrs. Frazier and Miss Gettler, two of our terrific sixth grade teachers, got "pied" this week! Throughout the second half of the school year, students have been rewarded with PRO (principled/respectful/open-minded) points for positive behaviors. They had a chance to spend those points on prizes, and one of the big ones was to pie their teacher! Six students chose to use their PRO points in that way, and some pictures are posted below. We'd like to thank the teachers for being such awesome sports!

Fourth Grade Goal Chain
Students in Mrs. Sharpe's fourth grade class started a goal chain project on April 15. Each day, the students set an intention for the day so they could reach their goals. They set goals as a class and individual goals. If they accomplished a goal, they wrote the goal on a piece of construction paper and added it to the goal chain. The class goal was to show kindness with words and actions. Some of their personal goals included:

  • To say I can
  • To work on my handwriting
  • To concentrate when I am doing my work
  • To show that I can be brave
  • To show respect
  • To be a leader

The students learned how to make S.M.A.R.T. goals that set them up for success. They also worked together to reach goals in small and large groups.

This morning, they stretched the goal chain out to see how long it reached. They originally planned to unveil it in the playground, but it was too long, so they carefully walked it to the back parking lot! With the help of Mr. Goodwin and their teachers, the students used their math skills to calculate some interesting facts about their achievements. In just 36 school days, the 26 students set approximately 1,584 goals! That means they set about 44 goals each day, and every student set about 1.7 goals daily. Imagine a whole school year of goals! Awesome job, fourth grade.

Partnership with Univest Bank & Trust Co.
York Academy Regional Charter School and the York Academy Foundation would like to thank Univest Bank and Trust Co. for its support in refinancing the Lower School building. When the Academy began in 2010, the Lower School property was part of a multi-year financing agreement that would expire in 2020. A refinancing partner would be necessary to support the remaining debt owed on the property. After multiple discussions, Univest Bank was selected as the best refinancing partner for York Academy and its Foundation.

Univest Bank and Trust, Co. has a 144-year history of serving and giving back to their local communities. They are excited to be entering York County with a new regional office (opened in January 2021) and with comprehensive financial services for businesses and consumers. In bringing this spirit of service to life, Univest Bank offers strong local leadership, employee volunteerism, and financial support to organizations whose programs and services complement its brand and mission.

Notes from the Kitchen
By Regina Arnold, Food Services Manager
Hello friends,

This is my last note to you all for the 2020-21 school year. Usually at the this time, I feel the year went so fast. I am sure I am not the only one to feel that it's been a very, very long year.

It was extremely challenging to find ways to serve our in-school learners, our e-learners and our community safely. The staff in both of our buildings served over 65,500 meals this year in many different ways. They served our students in their classrooms and in our cafeterias, and provided meals curbside. They packed 5-day meal bundles for our families that couldn’t come every day. Menus changed often because food wasn’t available, and the staff just did what was needed. I am very proud of them all.

I look forward to seeing what our next school year will look like. I am hopeful that we will be able to serve fresh, nutritious and tasty meals to all of our students safely in our cafeterias.

I, along with all of the Nutritional Service Staff, wish you a very safe and happy summer break.

Eat well and be healthy,
Ms. Gina

We appreciate all the staff volunteers who helped out, too. Click below to view some pictures.
