MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
ALMACENES MEXICO
Almacenes Mexico at 4052 W. North Avenue in the North & Pulaski Shopping District has been in business since 1987, serving the Greater Humboldt Park community. The store is owned and managed by brothers Delfin & Alex (seen left) Delgado, lifelong Chicago residents.
While styles change, Delfin and Alex have kept pace with apparel industry trends - they attend trade shows and are responsive to customer feedback when purchasing inventory. A popular item stocked by Almacenes Mexico is Columbian-style jeans.
|
|
The brothers have a loyal customer base, which has steadily grown by word of mouth. Almacenes Mexico holds regular sales and participates in Chamber promotions like the Sidewalk Sales and Mother's Day Flowers.
Despite the challenge of COVID-19, the Delgado's plan to continue bringing quality services and products to the community. NWCC wishes them continuing years of success.

City Changes, Expands
Outdoor Dining Program
The City of Chicago announced changes to the Outdoor Dining permit, allowing bars, restaurants, and food or drink establishments to operate outdoors, expanding the opportunity to businesses not serving food.
To those not serving food, there is a requisite; these businesses must identify a partner who will supply the food available in the outdoor area to qualify. Additionally, there must be 6' of walking/distancing space between tables; the entrances must be from 3 to 5 feet wide, surrounded by a barrier at least 27 inches high above the ground to provide cane detection.
Another change to the extended permit process affects establishments with patios, courtyards, and other permanent outdoor locations - the permit process is now quicker because regulatory hurdles have been streamlined.
|
|
The permit can also be used by
-
Chambers, SSAs, Business Service Organizations, and three or more establishments can apply for a street closure, or other public property use, for multiple bars and restaurants to participate.
-
Individual bars or restaurants can apply to temporarily operate in private property such as parking lots and areas that are typically Outdoor Patios.
-
Individual liquor-only establishments can apply to operate in sidewalk space immediately in front of or adjacent to their establishment.
