We come to hear the story of God's faithfulness to past generations.
But we also look to the future as well as the past.
The God who was with our ancestors is with us as well.
Then we can go forward in hope.
Whatever else fails, God remains faithful.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God!
Praise be to God!

UMH 887
Affirmation from Romans 8:35, 37-39
Pastor:
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall tribulation or distress, or persecution or famine,
or nakedness or peril or sword?
People:
No! In all things we are more than conquerors
through the One who loved us.
We are sure that neither death nor life, nor angels,
nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come,
nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God
in Christ Jesus our Lord. Thanks be to God! Amen.
Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, amen.

IN UNITY WE LIFT OUR SONG
Authors: Ken Medema, Martin Luther
1 In unity we lift our song
of grateful adoration,
for brothers brave and sisters strong.
What cause for celebration!
For those whose faithfulness
has kept us through distress,
who've shared with us our plight,
who've held us in the night,
the blessed congregation.
2 For stories told and told again
to every generation,
to give us strength in time of pain,
to give us consolation.
Our spirits to revive
to keep our dreams alive,
when we are far from home
and evil seasons come;
how firm is our foundation.
4 For God our way, our bread, our rest,
of all these gifts the Giver.
Our strength, our guide, our nurturing breast
whose hand will yet deliver.
Who keeps us till the day
when night shall pass away,
when hate and fear are gone
and all our work is done,
and we shall sing forever.
Would I Have Answered When You Called
Authors: Herman G. Stuempfle, Jr., Roy Hopp
Would I have answered when you called,
Come, follow, follow me!""?
Would I at once have left behind
both work and family?
Or would the old, familiar round
have held me by its claim
and kept the spark within my heart
From bursting into flame?
Would I have followed where you led
through ancient Galilee,
On roads unknown, by ways untried,
beyond security?
Or would I soon have hurried back
where home and comfort drew,
Where truth you taught would not disturb
The ordered world I knew?
O Christ, I cannot search my heart
through all its tangled ways,
Nor can I with a certain mind
my steadfastness appraise.
I only pray that when you call,
""Come, follow, follow me!""
You'll give me strength beyond
my own to follow faithfully.
Jesu, Jesu
Authors: Tom Colvin, 1969, Charles H. Webb, 1988
[Refrain:]
Jesu, Jesu,
fill us with your love, show us how to serve
the neighbors we have from you.
1 Kneels at the feet of his friends,
silently washes their feet,
Master who acts as a slave to them.
(Refrain)
2 Neighbors are rich and poor,
neighbors are black and white,
neighbors are near and far away.
(Refrain)
3 These are the ones we should serve,
these are the ones we should love;
all these are neighbors to us and you.
(Refrain)
