State of Arkansas

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced that the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas has grown by 383. That's the first time since July 7 that the daily number of new cases has been less than 500.

Hutchinson urged caution on taking the number to reflect a downward trend. He said that part of the reason for the low number was the low testing rate that the state experienced during the period of those tests.

Of its 190,000 COVID-19 testing goal for August, the state is currently at 57,229. As far as its 10,000 goal for COVID-19 antigen tests for the month, the state sits at 1,836.

Today's positive test brings the number of cumulative cases in the state to 50,411. Of those cases, 6,847 are considered active with 60 in nursing homes, 817 in correctional facilities and 5,970 in the community.

When it came to today's cases, 69 were detected in correctional facilities and 313 were detected in the community at large. The County with the highest number was Pulaski County with 63.

Hospitalizations decreased by 1 since yesterday, bringing the total currently hospitalized to 507. Of those hospitalized, 116 are on ventilators.

There have been 11 more deaths due to COVID-19. The death total for Arkansas is now 566.
