Generous supporters help struggling families receive emergency assistance
Hello Friend,

While COVID-19 cases in New York have steadily declined over the past couple of months and currently remain stable, the economic fallout from the health crisis has left many Queens families on the edge. Seeing the urgent need, Queens Community House has committed all its resources to help our neighbors. Click here to read the whole story.

Two months ago, the City announced that it would be cutting the funding for all summer youth programs to meet the revenue shortfall caused by COVID-19. Knowing how important summer programs are for keeping students engaged and productive, Queens Community House, along with other partners and elected officials from across New York City, led an effort to restore Summer Youth Employment Program funding.

As a result, this summer, young people will have the opportunity to participate in a six-week virtual "Bridge" program. Over 300 teens and young adults have enrolled through QCH. They will be placed at businesses across all five boroughs, gaining valuable work experience and having the chance to explore a variety of career options.
Access for Young Women (AFYW) is in its 23rd year of providing valuable leadership opportunities to young women ages 12-18. This video highlights Kayla Grant, a recent graduate who will be attending Howard University in the fall.

The program has improved girls’ self-esteem, academic performance, leadership skills, and knowledge of gender issues. The program culminates with an Annual Youth Leadership Conference organized and facilitated by the young women to educate their peers and spread awareness on issues of importance to them. This year, the young women did not let the shutdown deter them, and transformed the conference into a virtual event that reached hundreds of people. We’re so proud of Kayla Grant and all of our Access for Young Women participants and we can’t wait to be awed by all of their future accomplishments.
Queens Community House provides individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities.
