Hello Tulita Families!

As we officially enter Fall, your PTA is working hard to line up some fun community-building events and activities to keep us all feeling as connected as possible while we are in remote learning.

On Tuesday, October 13th , we will be holding our first Eat for Tulita at Mama Ds! Take a break from cooking and support Tulita PTA - a portion of the proceeds on outdoor dining, carry out, and gift cards will be donated back to PTA.

Is your child a budding Picasso, Spielberg, or Copeland? Have them enter their works of art into this year’s Reflections program! The 2020-21 PTA Reflections theme is “I Matter Because…” More information about the program, rules and the submission form are available on the Tulita App. Don’t delay – the deadline to submit is October 19th ! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Reflections Chair, Hayley Salus at tulitaptareflections@gmail.com.

And rounding out October is, of course, Halloween! This year, Halloween may look different but we can still celebrate in a safe way! Tulita PTA will be hosting a Halloween Drive-Thru on Friday, October 30th from 2 – 4 pm. Dress up, decorate your car, and drive on by the front of the school to hear spooky music and wave hello to Tulita staff and PTA!

We will also be holding our first-ever pumpkin carving/decorating contest. Get creative and drop-off your masterpieces on Thursday, October 29th before 4 pm (there will be a designated table outside the front office). Prizes will be awarded to Best in Show, Funniest, and Most Creative! All pumpkin entries will be on display during the drive thru!

Last but not least, as President, I want you to feel comfortable reaching out to me and my board and know that we are approachable, open, and want the very best for all our kids. We joined the board because we love Tulita and we want to make a positive impact on our school community. In that spirit, I would like to continue to give you a small spotlight on a different board member each month. This month we are getting to know Johanna Nagel-Kim.

Have a great October everyone - thank you for your continued support and kindness! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at tulitaptapresident@gmail.com.
Warmly,
Tijen Loubert

Getting to Know Your PTA Board:
Johanna Nagel-Kim, VP Communications
Hi Tulita! My name is Johanna Nagel-Kim and I am the VP Communications for the PTA.

My husband, John, and I have lived in the South Bay for 15 years. We have two daughters: Aria, a 3rd grader at Tulita, and Avalon, a 6th grader at Parras.

We lived in North RB for a number of years and our kids started their education at Jefferson Elementary. Two years ago, we decided to move South and have been so happy that we did! Tulita has a true “neighborhood school” feel, and we have fallen in love with our street (Helberta Ave)!

I grew up in Seattle and my husband is an Australian (Sydney) native. The South Bay has become home for us though, and we can’t imagine life elsewhere.

Both of our daughters are swimmers (Go BCS!), love the beach, get excited by making art, and (thanks to quarantine) love Roblox.

Remote school has been a challenge, but we try to focus on the fact that we don’t typically have this much family time. There are silver linings everywhere!

In terms of work, I spent 15+ years as a management consultant working internationally (pre-kids!), then spent a few amazing years as a stay-at-home mom. For the past 3 years I have been back at work, as the COO for Behavior and Education; an agency that provides behavior therapy for kids with autism. In my free time, I like to do pilates, spend time trying out my new quarantine hobby (tennis!), and daydreaming about laying by the pool in Cabo.

I’m happy to be able to assist the PTA and the great families at Tulita this year. Go Tidal Waves!

  • Close all tabs on whatever computer you are using before logging on to Zoom or Webex.

  • Remove multiple extensions off your Chromebook.

  • If still having issues, use a cell phone to log into the video class and use your Chromebook for the classwork.

  • If your internet goes out or you cannot log on, email your teacher to let them know about the issue.

  • Students, download the free Google Classroom App to your phone and enter your google classroom codes. The app provides a “To Do” list based on the assignments posted in Google Classroom.

  • Parents, download the free Powerschool Mobile App that provides a quick reference to grades and attendance. Apps can fail, so if you are having trouble using the App, try the web version.
