Adena Launches New Option for
Emphysema/COPD Patients
Physician performs Health System’s first Zephyr Valve procedure
A new, minimally invasive procedure now being offered by Adena Health System is providing a breath of fresh air in the treatment of patients suffering from emphysema and COPD.
“We’ve actually been talking about doing this type of procedure for at least a year,” said Adena Pulmonology, Critical Care and Sleep Associates’ Dr. Haval Saadlla, who performed the Health System’s first Zephyr Valve surgery in December. “We wanted to make sure we had every single piece of the puzzle in place before we did it.”
The procedure is the latest evolution in the treatment of patients with emphysema and COPD, conditions involving damaged portions of the lungs that have lost the ability to release trapped air, resulting in hyperinflation of the lungs that impacts breathing. Prior to the arrival of Zephyr Valve treatments, those suffering from severe cases would have to undergo a lung volume reduction surgery to remove the portion of the lung causing the hyperinflation...

Chronic Disease, Chronic Pain & Diabetes Self-Management
Telephone Classes Scheduled for February
Wellness classes provided by the Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7) continue over the telephone due to the coronavirus pandemic. Classes will be offered in February, including Chronic Disease Self-Management, Chronic Pain Self-Management, and Diabetes Self-Management.

2021 FREE TAX RETURN
PREPARATION AND FILING
The Workforce & Business Development Program at the Community Action Committee of Pike County located at 941 Market Street in Piketon is providing the Free Tax Preparation Program by filing current and past years’ federal and state tax returns FREE OF CHARGE for low to moderate income taxpayers. Our Volunteer staff are certified by the IRS to prepare and complete tax returns.
Tax Envelopes and required forms are available in the mailbox outside the OMJ Career Center windows, along with a checklist of documents needed to properly prepare tax returns. It is IMPORTANT that you provide a good working contact number for the tax staff to reach you. Once your documents have been accepted by our staff, contact will be conducted via telephone as needed. Income Tax Returns can be dropped off at the OhioMeansJobs Career Center Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 4:30pm beginning on January 24th.

BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS WORKSHOP
The OhioMeansJobs Pike County Career Center at the Community Action Committee of Pike County will be hosting a no-cost workshop focusing on basic computer skills on Thursday, January 27 from 1 – 3 pm. This event will be conducted at the OhioMeansJobs Career Center Training Lab located at 941 Market Street, Piketon. Registration is required due to limited space.
This workshop will offer a general overview of the basic skills and knowledge needed to use a computer for work-related needs such as: setting up an email account, Internet browsing safety tips, Microsoft Office software, and more.

The TechCred application period is open now and closes Monday, January 31st at 3:00 p.m. Businesses with employees who have completed their TechCred training should submit proof of credential completion to receive reimbursement at TechCred.Ohio.gov. RESUME WORKSHOP
The OhioMeansJobs Pike County Career Center at the Community Action Committee of Pike County will be hosting a no-cost Resume Workshop on Wednesday, February 23 from 5 – 7 pm. This event will be conducted at the OhioMeansJobs Career Center Training Lab located at 941 Market Street, Piketon. Registration is required due to limited space.
This workshop will cover basic resume writing skills such as: resume tips, internet presence, good and bad resumes, objectives and skills, parts of a resume, and types of resumes.
Face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
