AGO Pride Month Free Educational Trainings, June 7-30th
This June, the Attorney General’s Community Engagement Division is honoring Pride Month by offering “Know Your Rights” educational virtual presentations to our LGBTQ+ communities, its friends, and allies. We aim to ensure that communities across the Commonwealth are provided with information and resources to protect themselves from all sort of discrimination, fraud, abuse, or acts of hate.

HEALing Communities News Release - CHART Team Mobile Clinic Providing Substance Use Disorder Services

Legal Notice: Request for Proposals for Title IIIB & Title IIID Federal Grants
Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, Inc. is soliciting proposals for the Title III B & D funds received from the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, for the delivery of services to elders and caregivers in Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket Counties (with the exception of Gosnold). Grants will be awarded through a competitive proposal review process, to support and extend comprehensive and coordinated services enabling persons age 60 and over and/or their caregivers, to remain living in their homes and communities. Proposals must support or extend (1) access to services, (2) in-home services, and/or (3) legal services. In addition, separate funding is available for Title IIID evidence based programs which promote good health and well-being. Individual grant awards not to exceed $10,000 (except for the legal services grant).

Direct and implement the mission of Covenant to Care, which exists to create partnerships between local foster care families, Cape and Islands faith communities and the broader Cape and Islands community to support foster families and the children in their care. Covenant to Care for Foster Families (CCFF) is a collaboration between the Cape Cod Council of Churches and the Cape and Islands Department of Children and Families (DCF).

This free webinar will feature insights from key decision-makers and experts who inspired the state’s first modular constructed housing for medically complex people experiencing recurrent or long-term homelessness, and how it is becoming a reality. We will discuss the goals of A Place to Live and what we hope to achieve through modular construction and other alternative housing solutions, the perspectives of local leadership and collaboration process across partners to achieve this success, and the road ahead to realize our vision.

It's Worth a Shot: Community Conversations about Vaccines, June 9, 7-8pm
The Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Cape nonprofit, Team Maureen, are partnering to offer a free event all about vaccines on June 9th from 7-8pm. The Zoom meeting will include stories from local residents about their experiences with vaccine preventable disease, followed by Dr. Richard Moriarty, who will discuss vaccine development, school vaccination requirements, and helpful information about vaccine-preventable diseases like Whooping Cough, HPV, Flu, and COVID-19. Breakout groups by region will follow the presentations, with local doctors, nurses, school nurses and public health workers available to answer questions and talk about local issues and local vaccine availability. All are welcome, but the content will be particularly helpful for parents of school-aged children. Portuguese translation will be available. Free Workshop: Learn How to effectively Engage in Town Housing Decisions, June 16, 6-7:30pm via Zoom
Community support is critical to addressing the Cape's housing crisis. The Municipal Engagement Initiative (MEI) is a program of CHAPA designed to support citizen advocates as they work with town officials to implement housing solutions. The workshop will provide an overview of tools and planning strategies for building lasting housing coalitions, many of which are available for free on CHAPA's website.
CHAPA will provide examples of successful housing coalitions and projects, and participants are encouraged to bring questions and examples from their town as well. Housing Assistance will be hosting follow-up meetings for residents interested in building active coalitions.
In a few short years, the MEI initiative has paid off in a number of Massachusetts communities where local groups, including Housing for All in Acton, Housing Medford, Livable Newton, and Amherst Affordable Housing Coalition, were instrumental in passing desperately needed housing ordinances.
Organizing into a coalition makes it easier for residents to engage with towns on housing policy on a consistent basis. It's not always clear to individual residents who in town government they can ask about the status of housing initiatives, which board or committee meeting or public hearing they should be attending, or how to organize people to talk through the complex issues and ideas before items get to an official public hearing or vote. The coalition pulls people and the conversation together.

State laws and policies can sometimes be hard to find and understand, so what are ways we can make this information more accessible to the communities they impact? If you are new to public health or coalition work, this training will help walk you through how to find public policy information in the Massachusetts State House, how policy can be used to support our work, and the ways in which coalitions can empower themselves to engage with their local policymakers in ways that work for their coalition and its members.

COVID 19 Survival Kit Series - Sponsored by NAMI Cape Cod & The Islands
In early 2020, when COVID 19 hit hard, NAMI Cape Cod & the Islands developed an 8-part Survival Tool Kit Series, based on the research of Bruce Perry, renowned child psychiatrist and neuroscientist. The kit was developed as a guide to review, over the fall and winter months, some essential tools to help us deal with stress of the COVID 19 pandemic. These tools apply to those of all ages--children, adolescents, young adults, adults and elders.
