State of the Station 2022 Report

Dear KBOO Community,

It is an honor to have served as board president for this amazing Community-powered radio station and the KBOO foundation for the last three years. KBOO continues to be a consistent resource for our communities, giving a platform to marginalized voices, playing music you won’t hear on any other station, and providing a dependable source for news about events affecting us locally. When all else feels uncertain, KBOO remains on the air, and the programming we have known and loved for many years has continued to bring community voices to the air.

This year we celebrated our activism, commitments to justice and democracy, and great KBOO programming despite the ongoing challenges of Covid-19 and a struggling economy. We continue to shift and pivot with the times and look forward to more in-person events. Recent highlights include:

Programming: Volunteers have been producing from home. Programmers and staff created over 7,000 hours of programming featuring more Native programming with Marla Davis funds and more national programming funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Volunteers: KBOO launched Galaxy, a new way for volunteers to interface with KBOO, find volunteer opportunities, trainings, and track volunteer time. KBOO's Board of Directors accounted for 700+ volunteer hours.

Facilities: We replaced our old HVAC with more energy-efficient, cleaner units secured far under budget. The back studio now has a fresh coat of paint.

Staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors worked hard in 2022. KBOO is proud of this year and looks forward to 2023. We extend a very special thanks to you to our 4,600+ sustaining members, as well as to the thousands of KBOO members and listeners.

You sustain and expand our efforts to provide volunteer-powered, non-commercial, full-strength, community radio programming. Please give generously online to our year-end campaign at kboo.fm/give.

Thank you for your support of KBOO!
