Rector's Ramblings - Encounters with the Divine
Pentecost Reflections
Bonney Shuman

When I was asked to write about “Encounters with the Divine” my mind naturally started whirling. All sorts of experiences came to mind and I then began to question myself. How do you capture “the best” when so often we have encounters every day that make us grateful for God and his many gifts? I was led to my most recent encounter as that kept replaying in my mind.
Worship
Weekly Sunday Worship
In-Person Worship Has Moved Indoors

We are now holding in-person worship services in historic Christ Church and in the Christ Church Parish Hall every Sunday morning.

The 8:00 am, BCP 1928 Holy Eucharist and the 9:15 am, Rite II Holy Eucharist services will take place in the Church.

The 10:20 am Child-Centered Holy Eucharist and 11:15 am Right I Holy Eucharist services will be held in the Parish Hall.

Seating is limited, so you MUST register for ALL in-person services by calling the church office at 912-638-8683, Tuesday-Thursday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

You must speak with a staff member or volunteer for your reservation to be completed.

Masks will be worn throughout the services and social distance between family groups will be maintained.

Drive-Through Communion - 10:15 - 11:00 am

Drive-Through Communion will begin immediately at the conclusion of the 9:15 am church service, at approximately 10:15 am and conclude at 11:00 am. All are welcome to join us there. Please wear your masks and if you have dogs, bring them along for a blessing and a treat, too!

(If you'd like to get out in the fresh air for a brief period each Sunday and be extremely helpful at the same time, please consider helping Mtr. Ashton, as she serves outdoor Communion each week, from 10:15 to 11:00 am in the Christ Church cemetery. If you're interested in this serving opportunity, please contact Mtr. Ashton at ashton@ccfssi.org.)

Help Us Make Our 10:20 am Service Even More Meaningful
for Our Children
Now that our Child-Centered Service has moved indoors, we would like to introduce a rotation of different roles in the service that are engaging and make the service whole! The jobs with an asterisk means an adult is needed, but we strongly encourage signing up and including your children or grandchildren in the service. So be thinking about how you would like to serve in the ways listed below. Please contact Mtr. Katie at katie@ccfssi.org or call 921-638-8683, if you’d like to help.

Altar Guild* - Helping learn about and setting the table for Eucharist
Greeters*- Welcoming those coming into church and checking them in
Ushers*- Showing people to their seats and signaling when to go up for communion
Acolytes - Helping the Priest with the service; processing in the cross
Eucharistic Minister*- Helping distribute the wine at Eucharist
Readers - Reading the Lessons
Evening Prayer

If you enjoy hearing Evening Prayer read, please look for it at 5:00 pm on the Christ Church Facebook page HERE. The Rite I bulletin for evening prayer can be found HERE. The Rite II bulletin for evening prayer can be found HERE.

Mission and Outreach
The 2021 Tour of Homes Fundraiser Has Reached Its Goal!
Christ Church ECW is excited to announce that the 2021 Tour Outreach fundraising campaign achieved its $30,000 goal! Thanks to the amazing generosity of the community, and, especially, the generosity of CCF members, the Tour of Homes commitment to benefiting women and children in need in our area, will again be fulfilled, despite the pandemic. The list recognizing the many contributors, who made this possible, can be found on the Christ Church Tour of Homes website at http://www.christchurchtourofhomes.org. Thank you all. Grant applications are under review; look for more news soon about grant awards!
Backpack Buddies: Major Achievements in a Difficult Year
THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed time, talent and treasure to the most memorable Backpacking year EVER! During the 2020-2021 school year, our Backpack Buddies team packed a grand total of 16,924 bags for the students we serve. Averaging 4.5 pounds of food per bag, they handled roughly 76,158 pounds of food. That food has gone to our hundreds of young buddies in Glynn County and has helped assure them of the nutrition they needed to have a successful school year. It was not an easy year for anybody – students, teachers and volunteers alike, but we prevailed and we heartily thank everyone who made it possible!

All are welcome to “adopt” a Backpack Buddy at any time during the year, even NOW, when the school year has come to an end! A sponsorship for a child is $100, which will supply the youngster with weekend food bags for the entire school year. You may donate online HERE, (choose Backpack Program from the drop-down menu), or by check (just mail it to Christ Church, at 6329 Frederica Road St. Simons Island, GA 31522; memo line, Backpack Buddies).

If you have any questions about the Backpack Buddies program or are interested in joining the packing and distribution teams, please contact Susan Shipman at susanshipman920@gmail.com.
Christ Church Comforters
Our Christ Church Comforters have continued to knit and crochet throughout the pandemic. They recently met on Friday, May 14, to have their large collection of shawls and baby blankets, created during isolation, blessed. A good portion of the blessed shawls were taken to Hospice of the Golden Isles by Eleanor Ragsdale.

In the coming months, the Comforters will concentrate on making lap blankets for the sick and infirm and caps for the International Seafarers Center, which they will be collecting in November. If you are interested in helping with these ministries, please contact Gay Barron at gaylor61@gmail.com or Mtr. Ashton at 912-638-8683.

Need to learn how to crochet? Group member Eleanor has graciously agreed to teach all who are interested. Gay will provide the crochet hooks. The next meeting of the Comforters will be on Friday, June 18, at 1:00 pm, in the Parish House.

Summer Ramblings - Encounters with the Divine
Have you experienced an encounter with the Divine? Would you be willing to share your story with your Christ Church family? This summer, while Father Tom is away on Sabbatical, Mother Katie is looking for some folks who would be willing to write their own musings, to fill in for Fr. Tom's usual rambles. If you’re interested in contributing, please contact her at 912-638-8683 or at katie@ccfssi.org for more information. There will be many weeks available, so we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
Sabbatical 2021: Father Tom and His Family Are Ready to Go!
Driving a massive motorhome is no easy task, so Father Tom and Donna have taken driving lessons in recent days, to make sure they're ready to handle the behemoth when they hit the highway. Their driving instructor, Trainer Joe says, "They're ready to go!"

Godspeed Purdy Family!

Pastoral Care & Prayer List
Pastoral Care Team Needs Small Bud Vases
Our Pastoral Care Flower Ministry is asking for small bud vase donations. If you have bud vases at home that you're willing to donate or would like to purchase a few inexpensive vases for us to use, we would greatly appreciate it! (Please make sure that used vases are clean.) Donations may be dropped off at the Parish House. If you have any questions, please contact Mother Ashton at ashton@ccfssi.org.
Pastoral Care

Your pastoral care team is here for you! If you have a pastoral concern, a blessing you'd like to share, want to arrange a hospital or home visit, and/or receive Holy Communion, please contact Mother Ashton Williston at 912-638-8683 or ashton@ccfssi.org.

Pastoral Care Hospital Visitation Update

Your Christ Church Clergy love you and want to know when you're in the hospital. Currently, the hospital COVID policy states that a patient is allowed two visitors per day. The clergy want to visit, however, in some cases you may receive a phone call or get a visit when you have been discharged from the hospital, instead. This is because we want your family members to be able to fill the two visitation spots. With that being said, you may request one of your clergy to visit the hospital and fill one of the visitation spots. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Faithfully,
Mother Ashton
