The Librarian’s Pep Talk
pep talk
/ˈpep ˌtôk/
noun
INFORMAL
1. a talk intended to make someone feel more courageous or enthusiastic.
| | |
It is hard to believe that the leaves are beginning to fall off the trees. Days are shorter, but daily to-do lists are not. The news of 2022 is challenging on many levels for people of all ages. Do not let the cool weather or world news slow you down. You were made to do awesome things. Stop and look around. We live in a great community that is full of tradition, spirt, comradery, and best of all a community that supports the library. The library, a place where we learn together, explore together, and make each other better people. A place that will inspire you to do awesome things.
In October, the library will offer opportunities that will inspire you. These opportunities include the following: free basic computer classes for adults, an educational presentation of Vincent Van Gogh’s life, a book sale, an informative presentation and virtual demonstration on dementia, canvas painting for adults, a Halloween party and parade for children accompanied by the Fidelity ice cream truck, and financial storytimes for children.
Inspiration surrounds you at the library. You can do anything you want, and the library is the starting point. Do something that will make the world awesome and start by investigating how the library can help you accomplish your goals. You might find your inspiration in a book, streaming Hoopla movie, library program, book group, or digital magazine. George Lorimer, an American journalist, author, and publisher once said, “You’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you’re going to go to bed with satisfaction.”
So many of you inspire me when I talk to you in the library. You continue to impress me as you volunteer your time, help form community partnerships, and support the library by using our collection, attending programs, and participating in our fundraisers. I hope I can return the favor and connect you to the library where you can be inspired and do awesome things.
See you at the library and hopefully at our Craig Thatcher concert on November 4!
Holly Bennett
Library Director, Information Conductor, and Community Ambassador
