Dear Members,

Finally!

We all just exhaled a collective sigh of relief as the election ended, after 4 years that felt like an eternity, and the last few days felt like a year! A huge weight has lifted off our shoulders, the anxiety is ebbing, and we can think a little clearer. Our problems are not automatically solved, but at least there can now be hope.

So now to focus on creating art: what creative projects are you planning this fall and winter? Are you planning to take an online art class or workshop? Don't forget, we have the Edie Weiller Professional Development Grant available for our members. Go to our website for more information:

Stay well and be creative!

Join a WCA/NH Pod!

Pods are smaller circles of WCA/NH members who live nearby and want to connect to work, play, see shows together, etc. You are encouraged to "Pod hop" to have more personal time with other groups! If you don't see a Pod in your area, invite a few friends over and start one, or advertise for artists in your area in ArtGenda!

NEW ZOOM POD

Too far away from any of the established PODs? Want to connect with other members that don't live close? Timing of nearby PODs is not right for you?

We've got you covered!

We're starting a ZOOM POD!

ZOOM on over from ANYWHERE!

Tuesday, November 10, 2020, 6:30 pm

Everyone is invited, bring a friend! You can add this to your regular POD experience.

What is a pod?
It's an art-share where artists get together, show and talk about their work or about art in general. You don't have to have work to show.
You don't have to be a member of WCA/NH.

Thank you all so very much for the warm welcome to WCA/NH! Our Board and Heather Lord continue to be fantastic mentors as we explore new venues and options for exhibit spaces during corona times; it's an adventure, that's for sure!

An interesting option that requires some surefootedness is the Pop-Up Show, I'm wondering if anyone is interested in one entitled "OFF THE WALL" that we might be able to do around the holidays. It would include artwork literally off of your walls of your studio, your home, your storage space (your inventory, folks!) AND could include some wild and crazy off-the-wall new works if you are so inclined.  If enough WCA/NH artists are interested, our Exhibitions Committee will get to work tout suite on finding an appropriate and convenient spot.

Please send along your level of interest to info@judykrassowski.com and we'll get back to you with an update after our Exhibitions Committee on November 12 at 3:30 pm. If you're interested in helping out, let us know that too, and I'll forward that Zoom link to you!

Grateful for all of you, for my family and for every day,
#StaySafe, Happy Thanksgiving!
Judy Krassowski :)

WCA/NH COVID-19
Artist Emergency Grant Program

Some of our members have been hit especially hard financially by the virus.  If you are having trouble making ends meet and paying for essential living expenses due to a loss of income from the myriad of exhibit, craft show and teaching cancellations, we have set aside money to help. The WCA/NH Artist Emergency Grant will provide $200 grants to WCA/NH artist members in need. This is open to all WCA/NH artist members whose dues are current as of March13th, 2020 - the date Governor Sununu issued a state of emergency due to COVID-19. It is a rolling deadline and grants will be awarded as received until funds run out. The application is a simple half page form.  The form and more information can be found  HERE  on our website.
FOR OUR WEBSITE

Dear WCA/NH members,
We are adding some new features to our wcanh.org website soon. Here's what we'd like to include:

  • online books, videos, or classes you have for sale
  • any online classes you are offering
  • any articles you have written about coping with COVIDtime (good zoom sessions, dealing with lockdown, etc)
  • any articles you've written about other artists, especially other members
  • news from your pod (meetings, activities, etc.)
  • any videos you have published
  • instructional videos you have made
If you would like to share or promote your activities during COVIDtime, please send the links and necessary information to

Did you miss the Fall Meeting?  It will soon be on YouTube!  I'm working on it. Watch for the notice.

editor's note: You may have noticed Alma's ink drawings of famous (or should be) women artists in earlier  ArtGendas. Given this political season, I thought you might enjoy her portrayal of RBG.

Broad Strokes:  15 Women Who Made Art and Made History (in that order) by Bridget Quinn. 2017. Chronicle Books, San Francisco.
This book had me (Rebecca) consumed for days.  The format is playful, and the writing is informative and seasoned with sass and humor.  For fun watch this short video of Linda Nochlin describing what it was like to sit for a portrait by Alice Neel https://www.mfa.org/video/sitting-for-alice

Ninth Street Women: Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler: Five Painters and the Movement That Changed Modern Art by Mary Gabriel 2018, Back Bay Books/Little, Brown and Company, New York.

Color Duets by Kaffe Fassett and Erin Lee. 2020.

Color Duets is a book of original artwork, textiles, and family stories. It memorializes a series of artist retreats shared by Kaffe Fassett and his niece, Erin Lee Gafill over the last twelve years.  It serves as a catalog for Color Duets, a museum show opening in May 2021 at the Monterey Museum of Art in Monterey, California.
