The Harold Simmons Foundation
Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CISDR) has received a $500,000 grant from The Harold Simmons Foundation to support our Safer Students, Stronger Schools Campaign (4S). This grant will help expand mental health services across Dallas-area school districts, hire additional site coordinators, and grow the Crisis Intervention Team. CISDR Hosts Breakfast For Adamson HS Teachers
The last year has been difficult for everyone, so CISDR Site Coordinator Juana Mendez helped organize an appreciation breakfast for the faculty and staff on her campus. She worked with the Adamson High School campus liaison to provide hot drinks and food, as well as "snack packs" for the teachers to enjoy later in the day. The breakfast was a hit and a nice morale-boost. Thank you to everyone at Adamson, and each one of our school campuses, for being "all in for kids" during these difficult times!
"I Am" Wall Teaches Students Self-Esteem
At Shepton High in Plano, CISDR Site Coordinator Victoria Bergez put together an "I Am" wall in her office to help build students' confidence. She asked them to write words or phrases to describe themselves, such as "strong," "brave," "creative," and "smart." Through writing down these positive affirmations, the students learned about self-esteem, improving their overall mental health so they can succeed in school and achieve in life.
Three Million Students Are "Missing"
An estimated three million students in the U.S. have gone “missing” during the pandemic — not from home, but from virtual school. They are no longer attending classes and are most likely falling behind. Even after the pandemic ends, many may never go back. Please help us continue our work to ensure that all students, regardless of race, gender, zip code, or socioeconomic background, have what they need to realize their potential in school and beyond.
