Sarasota Municipal Auditorium & Bayfront Community Center
Sarasota Municipal Auditorium
An icon in the heart of downtown Sarasota’s cultural district, the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium stands out as a premier event space for formal and corporate events. From elegant galas to business meetings, seminars, tradeshows, and private parties the auditorium offers 10,000 square feet of unobstructed floor space and excellent acoustics.

Key Building Features
Built in 1938 and designed in an amazing Art Deco style by Chicago architects Thomas Reed and Clarence A. Martin, the Municipal Auditorium has been painstakingly remodeled to maintain its iconic charm while providing the infrastructure needed for modern events. The tall ceilings and stunning hardwood floors create an elegant aesthetic while enhancing the quality of acoustics. The facility boasts a 39-foot ceiling, and seating can be planned to accommodate both small groups and large parties.

We offer our hosts and their guests free on-site parking, in-house concessions, and an ATM located within the facility. The auditorium’s location grants easy access to downtown Sarasota’s finest theaters, museums, hotels, and restaurants. To help your event run smoothly, we offer a front breezeway for ticket sales or registration along with a staging area for catering.
Plan your next event!
The City of Sarasota is now accepting requests for rental of the Municipal Auditorium and Bayfront Community Center. Those leases could be subject to cancellation due to COVID-19 and lessees are doing so at their own risk and expense.

FIRE TRAINING
Last week the Sarasota County Fire Department’s Special Operations Team was conducting structural collapse training at our Bobby Jones Golf Club, utilizing the buildings being demolished as part of the golf course renovations.

The focus of the training is stabilizing structures that are compromised due to either a natural or manmade disaster. If a structure has been damaged or has collapsed, it may be necessary to tunnel into and stabilize it in order to access any trapped victims. The City is happy to help Sarasota County Emergency Services with this training opportunity as they prepare for the upcoming hurricane season - and we thank them for keeping our community safe!

NEW ASPHALT
Repaving the parking lot at Whitaker Gateway Park took place between Thursday, May 20, and Friday, May 21, 2021. During this time there was no vehicular access to the park while construction crews were present. Parking was limited to permit holders only during the construction activities. The park stayed open to pedestrians and bicycles.

During the process, the old concrete was broken up then removed from the surface. Then the NEW asphalt concrete was laid down in layers and then compacted, in return creating a smooth surface. Enjoy the newly repaved parking lot!
