Greetings!
Last month I mentioned the name of my former company, Spirit-Works Enterprises, Inc., and my affinity for the word combination of “Spirit Works.” I’m always excited to hear about other people using that combination, as obviously it holds special significance to each of them too.
I was delighted to hear from a number of readers who felt a similar attraction to those words or similar combination. One reader said the name of her son’s company included the words “SpiritWalker.”
Another, Rev. Sandra L. Gelinas, wrote that while her current website is named AkashicFocus.com, her former website used the name “Spirit Works.” She went beyond that to share a visual of the concept for her and her work.
“I still have an affinity for Spirit Works name and concept even though I don’t use the name anywhere now. This was my letterhead (with address underneath) that showed me working here on the earth plane – star near S – and Spirit working from its higher perspective – star near small s.

“So – there is quite a “constellation” of us who are attuned to this particular name. I love it!”
Well, I love it too, and thank all the readers for taking the time to respond.
This month’s edition focuses on Spirit a bit more directly. Let’s start with this beautiful prayer in song form…

Spirituality
Great Spirit

When I “came to believe” it did not lead me to embrace any specific religious tradition. Through my readings, speaking with others, and experiences, my personal metaphysics came to include the idea that Spirit ( God, The Divine, The Presence, …) operates in, through, and around us. I know this idea is not my own unique one as you can see from reading the words below of Black Elk, a holy man of the Oglala Lakota (Sioux).
“The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells Wakan-Tanka (Great Spirit), and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us. This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this. The second peace is that which is made between two individuals, and the third is that which is made between two nations. But above all you should understand that there can never be peace between nations until there is known that true peace, which, as I have often said, is within the souls of men.”
― The Sacred Pipe: Black Elk's Account of the Seven Rites of the Oglala Sioux (1953), as told to Joseph Epes Brown

The Scientific Benefits of Helping Others
|
|
As one who has ever helped someone spontaneously or does it steadily as a volunteer, you know the impact helping others has on your own well-being.
For a twist this month in this space, I thought I’d bring to your attention—although I’m sure that most of this is probably already known to you—what science has shown about the benefits of helping others.
The Seven Scientific Benefits of Helping Others:
1. Helping others can help you live longer.
2. Altruism is contagious.
3. Helping others makes us happy.
4. Helping others may help with chronic pain.
5. Helping others lowers blood pressure.
6. Helping others promotes positive behaviors in teens.
7. Helping others gives us a sense of purpose and satisfaction.

Earlier this day, I left a prayer request for Silent Unity regarding a project I’m working on and some physical issues. I received their acknowledgement and affirmative prayer just as I was wrapping up this month’s newsletter edition.
Their email read, in part, “… we join you in holding this affirmation in heart and mind:
"God is a constant presence within me and around me, and God is the source of my good. I give thanks for the perfect fulfillment of my heart's good desires."
Nothing more to say!

You, Me, and Spirit
I was a devout atheist until 31 years ago when I "came to believe" in a Power greater than myself. Thanks to hearing the novel idea (well, at least it was to me!) that one could choose their own concept of God--and name too (Spirit, The Great Mystery, All That Is, etc.)--and the workings of synchronicity, I embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others. It impacted all aspects of my life and relationships.
Since that time of commencing my conscious spiritual journey, I have endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom I meet, and all that I do -- including working with clients in my own business and in the corporate world. I strive to be of service and to nurture the human spirit in all environments.
