Gan Gimmel Takes a Mystery Journey

Gan Gimmel spent the week discussing how Avram and Sarai traveled for so long from Charan to Erertz Canaan and then to Mitzrayim and back to Canaan again. Acting out this process, students took a Mystery Journey, traveling through the hallways of Yavneh, in order to experience the feeling of unknown travel. When the Morot said "Lech lecha," the class quickly formed a line and got ready to go on a mysterious journey filled with wonder. They weren't sure where they were going. After returning, the children enjoyed a special class treat and heard Hashem's promise that there would be so many Jewish people; they would not even be able to be counted, just like stars in the sky. Then we took turns stargazing!

Gan Daled Learns About Mixing Colors

Gan Daled had a lot of fun this week becoming scientists! After talking a lot about colors, and reading the book Mix It Up by Herve Tullet, they decided to do their own color mixing experiment. The class used primary colors and tried to guess what would happen when two colors were mixed together. It was really fun for the students as they realized how it actually works!

Third Graders Learn About Extreme Weather

Third grade students have been learning all about continents, oceans, and their climate zones, as part of our Extreme Weather Unit. After identifying and labeling personalized maps, students watched it come to life using the augmented reality app QuiverVision. The excitement was in the air in 3A with the world at our fingertips!

Fourth Graders Start Learning Sefer Yehoshua

The 4th graders were excited to start learning the first book of Neviim, Sefer Yehoshua. We looked at maps of Eretz Canaan in the time of Yehoshua. We learned about Yehoshua's life before he became the leader of Bnei Yisrael. We are now moving forward with him as he guides the Jews spiritually and physically into the land that was promised to Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov.

Global Read Aloud

Students in 5A have been zooming with Delhi, India, to discuss this year’s Global Read Aloud, Thirst by Varsha Bajaj. It’s been a wonderful experience delving into the text, learning about their culture, and sharing about our own.

Middle School

CIJE Drone Olympics at Yavneh

After spending an amazing three days at Frost Valley, our 7th graders returned to school on

Monday and learned how to fly - drones that is.

Yavneh Academy joins many yeshivot across the country who benefit from the programming and training provided by the Center for Innovations in Jewish Education (CIJE). Our middle school students and teachers have been part of CIJE’s E2K program, CIJE Bytes, Robotics, ongoing professional development for our teachers, and so much more.

Philip Brazil, CIJE’s Vice President of Development joined by Orly Nadler, Director of Innovation, Heshy Weider, STEM Mentor and Adam Jerozolim, Director of Curriculum Development brought 8 drones and an obstacle course. Our students assisted by Jason David, Brenda Zak, David Beckman and our CIJE mentors programmed the drones using DroneBlocks as their coding language. Our students were given many opportunities to craft and correct their programs. And the drones flew through more obstacles with each attempt.

It was great to see the learning put in place; our students had learned block coding in 6th grade as one of their trimester courses. Mrs. Zak and Mr. Beckman shared reflections in their afternoon science classes. At this time, we are still not sure who enjoyed the program more - our students or our teachers and CIJE mentors.

We thank CIJE for its dynamic approach to education and its commitment to helping yeshivas blossom. Special thank you to Mrs. Amy Amiel, CIJE’s Senior Vice President for joining us for part of the program.

Sixth Graders Hike at Bear Mountain

There were no bears but there were over 80 Yavneh 6th graders, accompanied by faculty, at Bear Mountain this morning. The trip was a day of bonding. Our children hiked and laughed through the mountain trails. The morning included an outdoor lunch and lots of conversation.

The children returned mid-afternoon to a shiur led by Mr. Josh Rossman which was followed by Mincha. The fun continued Panoply and Yavneh Extreme which included games and prizes. The games concluded with exciting prizes.
