Family Expo Won't Be Held This Year *
Due to the complications brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, The Children's Trust has decided to cancel its 2020 Family Expo. The 14th edition of the Family Expo will return in 2021. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the cancellation or next year's event, please write to

Miami Hurricanes Hosting Launch Party for Summer Book Battle Thursday *
Calling all K-5th grade children & families: Join us on Thursday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. for a Launch Party hosted by the Miami Hurricanes for
2020 Summer Book Battle featuring Hurricane’s athletes, dancers, coaches, activities and information on how to join yearly event. The Summer Book Battle is presented by the Miami-Dade Grade Level Reading Campaign and seeks to keep students' brains active during the summer and avoid the vaunted "summer slide." This year's battle will be held as a virtual field trip with special guests, entertainment, demonstrations, prizes and, of course, the main attraction, the Book Battle.

Cloth Masks Available *
The Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) in partnership with The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) is making 15 million reusable cloth masks available to aid in decreasing the spread of COVID-19. These masks are available for distribution in our community. You may request as many as your agency can distribute. This opportunity is available to any and all residents of Florida.

New Survey to Assess Needs of Young Parents
We are looking for service providers to recruit parents 18 to 29 years of age to participate in a survey about their needs as young parents. Those who complete a 10-minute online survey will get a chance to win a $100 gift card (20 prizes will be awarded). The survey is available in English, Spanish or Haitian Creole.
This survey is being conducted as part of an Annie E. Casey Foundation-funded research effort by community service organizations across Miami-Dade County to learn about the needs of young adult parents. Young Talent Big Dreams Countywide Competition Moves Online
The show must go on! Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre, together with presenting sponsor The Children’s Trust, have gone virtual to reopen auditions for the 10th anniversary season of Young Talent Big Dreams (YTBD), the most widespread talent competition for youth in the county. The competition will continue with kids between the ages of 8-17 submitting preliminary round audition videos that showcase their talents. Prizes remain the same and the semifinals and finals will be held in front of live audiences in late August and September, respectively, at The Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, conditions permitting.

Still Time to Fill Out Census Online
If you haven't received an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census online, or have but have not yet done so, there is still time. Options to fill out the census are available online, by phone or by mail. As providers, you are in a unique position to help direct families on filling out the census and informing them that it's safe, easy and important. Remember, the individuals you serve are often those who will most benefit from an accurate census count.

Mental Well-Being Program Grants Offered by Florida Blue Foundation *
The Florida Blue Foundation recently refreshed its strategic plan, and updated objectives and focus areas. Through three new strategic Drivers of Health, the foundation believes it is firmly positioned to make a difference in the health of individuals and communities in Florida. The Foundation will focus its funding priorities on these three areas that have a significant impact on the health of Floridians: Food Security, Health Equity and Mental Well-Being, with grant applications currently being accepted in the Mental Well-Being program area.

PediPec announces a special summer program for children with chronic medical needs including the following medical conditions: prematurity, neurologic disorders (including Cerebral Palsy, Seizures), respiratory conditions, feeding disorders, and more. How Nonprofits Can Participate in Listen4Good Co-Funded Grants
Since 2016, Fund for Shared Insight has made more than 260 co-funded Listen 4Good (L4G) grants totaling nearly $11 million, enabling more than 130,000 individuals served by nonprofits nationwide to share their opinions. In order to apply to participate in Listen4Good’s co-funded grant rounds, nonprofits must be nominated by one of their current funders (existing or new). If the nominated nonprofit is selected to participate in L4G, the nominating funder will contribute $15,000 of the $30,000 grant total for each nonprofit selected. (Note: Funders can nominate more than one nonprofit.)
Selected nonprofits will receive:
- $30,000 during an 18-month grant period, $20,000 in the first year and $10,000 in the final six months
- Paid access to a premium SurveyMonkey account
- Unlimited access to Listen4Good's interactive, resource-filled website, which includes step-by-step guides to implementing feedback loops
- One-one-one support from an L4G coach

Reading Explorers Share Tips to Boost Literacy Online
If your summer camp or early childhood program is planning to offer virtual, in-person, or combined services for children, Reading Explorers is available with technical and instructional remote support this summer. This Friday, Reading Explorers coaches will demonstrate how to use advanced features in zoom to boost literacy and will share resources for providing virtual reading comprehension and fluency interventions within one-hour zoom coaching sessions.

The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) provides mental health services including Individual/family therapy and psychiatry for children and adolescents in Miami Dade County. The institute accepts most Medicaid HMO’s and has funding for children of low-income families who do not have insurance. ICFH also provides individual/family therapy and psychiatry services for adults who have Medicaid.
