March 2021 Newsletter
Dear LCAC Familia

I thought 2021 would be easier, as though we were turning a page, but unfortunately, it hasn’t. A global pandemic still rages around us. Personally, my mamá has been in and out of the hospital since News Years Day. Thankfully, we finally got her home under hospice care, and she is finally resting and eating.

I am grateful for every moment that I get to spend with her. Likewise, I am grateful for the community that makes up the LCAC, especially my colegas who keep the ball rolling. This all has me thinking about how to honor our collective grief & come together to celebrate life & the arts.

As a Team, we are already working on Ofrendas 2021, and plan to have our best year yet!
I am pleased to announce that Lilian Lara, an artist and educator is onboarding with the LCAC part-time to coordinate this effort! She was part of the first LCAC Artist Training Program cohort in 2020.

We just received our first grant for Ofrendas from the US Bank Foundation -
A special thank you to Marcia Romero for her leadership!

I’d also like to announce that the LCAC is partnering with the
Art Therapist Association of Colorado to offer art therapy workshops throughout the metro area! If your organization is interested in hosting a workshop in your space or donating to this effort, please reach out to me!

We recently collaborated with local artist/illustrator, Victor Escobedo, to design the Ofrendas concept below. Your feedback is welcome!
As the debate around immigration continues to heat up around the country, the LCAC is proud to contribute to that conversation, while leading from a place of creativity and dignity. I am honored to share two powerful poems called “A Prayer for Los Inmigrantes” and “Through Fire and Hope” by Adrian H. Molina known as Molina Speaks. We are close to finalizing the Spanish version, so stay tuned.
As always, if there is anything that we can be of assistance with,
do not hesitate to reach out!
