Giving Statements will be emailed for contributions from January 1, 2020 through June 30, 2020. This email will be sent approximately July 9. Those members who do not have an email will receive a statement in the mail.

Church Building
Open by Appointment Only
Out of love for the Colonial community, the building will be open only to staff or by appointment so we will not answer the door. If you have something to drop off, please leave it in the bin outside the office door and we will regularly move items indoors. Contact Heather to schedule an appointment. Edson, our custodian, is taking extra efforts to disinfect rooms after each use.

| What to Expect with In Person Worship |
Returning to our building for worship will be a little different in order to make it safe for everyone. We all must wear masks, practice social distancing and follow some new guidelines. Here are a few other things to know:
Coming and going
Enter through the sanctuary doors on the main level. You may park in the back and walk around to the front or use the circle drive for drop offs in front, then drive around to one of the parking lots.
Exit through the main doors in the lower level.
The elevator will be available.
Masks and sanitizer
Please bring and wear a mask from home. If you forget your mask, they will be available as you enter. A greeter will be at the entrance with hand sanitizer for all.
Restrooms and drinking fountains
Use the lower-level restrooms - the restrooms on the main level will be closed. Drinking fountains have been shut off.
Narthex
Proceed to the sanctuary when you arrive, no gathering in the narthex in order to maintain social distance. A hospitality table volunteer will be in the narthex.
Sanctuary/worship service
We ask you to space yourselves throughout the sanctuary unless you are members of a household. Every other pew has been taped off and Bibles, hymnals and clip boards removed. We will not use offering plates and ask you to drop off donations in a box in the narthex.
Greeting the pastor
Pastor Aaron will not stand in the narthex after service. Instead, he will walk outside at the circle drive, so please drive by to say hello.
Children and Youth
No Sunday School, Colonial Tween Squad or Youtz gatherings for the time being. The nursery is closed.

We all need to recover. We're been trapped in unhealthy living, and this virus has made it clear how sick we are. As individuals, communities, and a world, we need to recover. This summer, God's Spirit will speak healing words in our sermons inspired by the Twelve Step Program. The wisdom of this path may be exactly what we need right now.

"White Fragility" July Thursday Morning Study Group
We're going to begin a new study at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays in July using materials developed for church communities.
White people in North America live in a social environment that protects and insulates them from race-based stress. To dismantle racism in our nation, white people must come to terms with our own and others' fragile, defensive, and coded responses when a conversation turns to race.
This July, our Colonial Church Thursday Study Group is going to read and discuss Robin DiAngelo's bestselling book White Fragility: Why It's So Hard For White People To Talk About Racism.

Voting is a natural extension of faithful action.
The decisions made by our representatives have a wide reaching impact. We have enormous potential to make positive change. We must engage our legislators, vote, and encourage everyone in our communities to do the same. Our faithful voice is needed."
So, make sure you are registered to vote. Go to jocoelection.org to check. If you have moved since the last election, you must re-register to vote. To vote in the August 4 primary elections in Missouri and Kansas, you must be registered by July 14. You can do it online.

To preview candidates and issues on the ballot starting 20 days before the election go to vote411.org and type in name and address.
If you do vote by provisional ballot at the polls on August 4, you can always call the Johnson County Election Office (913-715-6800) the following week to ensure your vote was counted.
If voting by mail, be sure to sign on the envelope.

Highlights from June 28 Council Meeting
July 12 has been set as the first Sunday the building will be reopened for in-person services. Colonial will adhere to state COVID-19 rules regarding gatherings, so if the situation changes, the church will comply. Rules on wearing masks, social distancing, sanitizing, etc. will be shared in the Crier and a "what to expect" video from Pastor Aaron.
The Board of Property Management has two projects underway: remodeling the Heritage Room kitchen and remedying the moisture issues in the basement. Future projects under consideration include resurfacing areas of the parking lot and repairing or replacing the sanctuary roof. Other recent efforts include rekeying the exterior locks and installing security cameras and doorbells.
Due to the pandemic, Parish Life suspended all events including Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas activities and Colonial Women cancelled the annual Rummage Sale.
The Colonial Church PPP Loan application was not approved, but the church will receive a reduction in payroll taxes resulting in a savings of approximately $17,000.

New Twist for the Annual Rummage Sale
Because of concerns about COVID-19 in October, Colonial Women has decided to host a rummage collection rather than the usual sale.
Bring your items on Sunday, October 18 beginning at 9:30 a.m. They will be loaded directly into a truck and taken to Savers the following day. Savers will pay us by the pound for good quality items.
All items should be clean and good quality in bags (13 gallon to 42 gallon plastic trash bags) and labeled as "soft goods". We will not store anything at the church.
Soft Goods Accepted:
- clothing - adult and children/infant
- bed and bath items, towels/shower curtains
- sheets, blankets, pillows/comforters/bed skirts/pillow shams
- curtains, tablecloths, napkins, runners, placemats
- shoes (all types) and boots/other cloth materials
- hats, mittens, scarves, ties, socks, belts
All items should be clean and good quality in bags (13 gallon to 42 gallon plastic trash bags) and labeled as "soft goods". We will not store anything at the church.
Hard Goods - Size restrictions: 18" x 18" x 18"
Please place in boxes.
- small sporting goods/small garden tools
- small electrical items toasters, radio, power tools, irons, blenders, mixers, stereos/CD players
- housewares: china cups, vases, dishes, cutlery, mugs, pots, pans, candles, utensils, glassware, silverware, stemware, baskets
- small household goods and pictures/frames
Cannot Accept List: water-damaged or moldy items; make-up and personal toiletries; hazardous materials - batteries, paints, chemicals, cleaning products; infant car seats, cribs restricted by law.
Books, magazines, CD and videos should be boxed separately and labeled to go to Half Price Book Store.

Colonial Women Activities
All women of Colonial Church are invited to gather with others in casual fellowship opportunities, whether you prefer breakfast, happy hour or discussing a book. Check out the options below. No reservations required.
- Blue Moose Tuesday. Tuesday, July 14, 5:30 p.m., Colonial Church front lawn. Bring your own chair, beverage and food as we gather - appropriately distanced - to talk and laugh together.
- Book Group. Friday, July 24, 7:00 p.m., via Zoom. We will discuss "The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek" by Kim Michele Richardson.
- Coffee. Monday, August 3, 9:30 a.m., Colonial Church front lawn. Bring your chair and your coffee.

Your Support Matters
Even though our building is currently closed, our work together matters - to each other and to the community. We are needed more than ever.
Your pledges help Colonial to do its work. Counters are counting and we are making deposits. You may mail in your pledge checks or any other payments. An easier alternative is to make contributions online. Artists Helping the Homeless: For the past few years, members of Colonial have purchased, prepared and helped serve an evening meal on the fourth Sunday of the month to support the program of Artists Helping the Homeless.
