The Cybersecurity Skills Journal invites practitioners, scholars, and educators to explore, propose or report on systematic and rigorous investigations of the contributing causes, mediating or moderating influences, and evidence-based solutions for diversifying the cybersecurity workforce. Cybersecurity Skills Journal Call for Peer Reviewers

Interested in helping raise the capability maturity of the cybersecurity workforce? Become a peer reviewer for the Cybersecurity Skills Journal and participate in a unique, constructive review process in which large peer reviewer panels assist authors in developing their research towards a scholarly rigorous, practically relevant publication.

Community College Cyber Summit Call for Proposals
Share your cybersecurity expertise and experience with others! The 2021 Community College Cyber Summit (3CS) is looking for proposals for breakout sessions for its upcoming event Nov. 5-7 at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Entries can vary in length from half day, one day to one-, two- or three-hours and should fit into one of five tracks: Evidence-Based, Instruction, Practice, Program Development and Student. Proposals are due June 15.

Neurodiversity: Untapped Talent That Can Help Meet the Cyber Skills Shortage Webcast

Social Engineering (SE) Educator Workshop

The CARE (Cybersecurity in Application, Research and Education) Lab at Temple University will host its 1st Social Engineering (SE) Educator Workshop on Monday, June 7th. The workshop will introduce attendees to SE, tactics and persuasion techniques used, SE playbooks, and relevance to cybersecurity. The workshop will share case studies on shoulder surfing, pretexting, and privacy. Attendees will also engage in a safe, ethical, and fun hands-on SE activity in groups and then share their experiences.
The workshop will end with an interactive discussion on implementing SE training and education at their respective organizations, the role of ethics in training and education, and a Q&A session with workshop organizers. Full-time educators in high school and higher education institutions can apply. High school educators selected for the workshop will be compensated for their time.

Applications are due by April 23rd at 6 pm ET. All applicants will receive a decision by May 14th.

Social Engineering (SE) Penetration Testing Competition
The CARE (Cybersecurity in Application, Research and Education) Lab at Temple University is hosting the FIRST ever Social Engineering (SE) Penetration Testing Competition completely online this summer! It can be hard to practice pen tests on someone or an organization as it involves ethical and legal issues. The SE Pen Test Competition allows students to experience pen testing in a safe and ethical way. Student teams in high schools, undergraduate, and graduate programs from ALL fields are encouraged to participate as SE impacts everyone.
Please note that this is NOT a technical competition. Student teams do NOT need to have skills or experience in pen testing, digital forensics, etc. So do encourage students from all fields to apply!

NICE Framework Competencies: Call for Comments
The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) has released draft supplemental content to the Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity (NICE Framework). Draft NIST Interagency or Internal Report (NISTIR) 8355, NICE Framework Competencies: Assessing Learners for Cybersecurity Work, elaborates on Competencies, which were re-introduced to the NICE Framework in 2020. The NISTIR provides more detail on what NICE Framework Competencies are, including their evolution and development and example uses from various stakeholder perspectives.
Released in conjunction with NISTIR 8355 is a draft NICE Framework List of Competencies that provides a proposed list of 54 Competencies for the cybersecurity workforce.

The public comment period for draft NISTIR 8355 and the draft List of Competencies is open from March 17 to May 3, 2021. Please visit the webpage to view the draft documents and instructions on how to submit comments. Feedback will be used to inform the next stage of work on the NICE Competencies, including aligning Task, Knowledge, and Skill statements to associated Competencies.
