PBSA’s U.S. Government Relations Committee, Access Subcommittee, and Advocacy Committee came together several weeks ago to form a Date of Birth Redaction Task Force to address a similar and ongoing issue in Michigan – California was quickly added to the scope of the Task Force. The group has met daily to discuss, identify, and deploy a wide array of strategies in both Michigan and California to address the issues in both states. Late last week outside counsel was engaged to confirm that an amicus brief (letter) could be filed in this case which has been petitioned to the California Supreme Court.
The significance of this issue resonated far and wide, enabling us to gather 22 organizations as signatories to date, including PBSA and CDIA: California Bankers Association, California Chamber of Commerce, California Credit Union League, California Financial Services Association, Checkr Inc., Coalition for Sensible Public Records Access, Electronic Security Association, Lyft Inc., Moco Incorporated, National Consumer Reporting Association, National Public Records Research Association, Public Records Retrieval Network, Security Industry Association, Southern California Rental Housing Association, Sue Weaver CAUSE: Commit to Always Using Screened Employees, The Monitoring Association, Tribal Gaming Protection Network, Uber Technologies Inc., Vector Security Inc., Western Burglar Alarm and Fire Alarm Association.
PBSA thanks the Date of Birth Redaction Task Force, CDIA, PBSA members who offered financial assistance for the brief, all of the above signatories, as well as the attorneys at Hudson Cook and Troutman Pepper who so excellently penned this brief on our behalf.
