A Message from Rich and Mike
Dear Bishop Kelly Parents,

Today was the last day of regular classes. and finals start on Monday, with the 57th Commencement of Bishop Kelly High School on Friday evening. We continue to be grateful for the support from you, our parents, throughout this school year.

In this slimmed down BK Alive, we will kindly remind you to take the end of year survey and help us prepare for next year, provide a reminder for the second Saint Alphonsus Mobile Vaccine Clinic here at BK on June 8th; and, share the latest COVID-19 numbers here at BK.
End-of-Year Parent Survey
This is the last call for the end of year parent survey. For those of you who currently have students attending BK, you may recall we did two surveys during this school year, one at two weeks into the school year, the second at 11 weeks. Your feedback was incredibly helpful as we have navigated our way together through the 2020-21 school year.

We would like to ask you to complete a final end-of-year survey with many of the same questions, plus we have added a few questions on communications needs/feedback and your vaccine plans for your students. For new, incoming parents please complete the questions on communications and vaccine plans. The survey is only 10 questions and will take about 5 minutes to complete.

Thanks to those who have stepped up to complete the survey in the past few days. Please know your opinions matter greatly to us and help us in making the best possible decisions for our students and our school. The survey will remain open until the end of today, Friday, May 21st.

St. Alphonsus Vaccine Clinic here at BK on June 8 and June 29
As you know, the Pfizer vaccine has recently been authorized for use for individuals aged 12 and up! This is very welcome news . We strongly encourage you to consider having your children vaccinated as soon as possible. Higher levels of vaccine participation will help ensure a safe return to school this upcoming fall.

To make it easier for our high school students and our partner Catholic school students, Saint Alphonsus will be bringing their mobile vaccine clinic once again to Bishop Kelly on June 8th between 7:30 am and Noon for ages 12+. Walkins are welcome or you can pre-register at THIS LINK or use the QR code on THIS FLIER.
COVID-19 Update
Here is our update for this week on the COVID-19 numbers for Bishop Kelly. We have had no new cases this week after three the first week of May. We have no students in quarantine and no students or staff out.
Final Thoughts
As mentioned previously, one week from this evening we will be honoring the BK Class of 2021 on Nick Ysursa Field! As we enter finals starting on Monday. let’s continue our theme of finishing the school year strong, healthy and let’s achieve personal excellence in the classroom, on the playing fields, and in their end-of-year performances!

Have a wonderful weekend!

God bless,

Reflections from Father Vance
During this last week of classes, I have been reviewing with my students where we have been over the course of the Semester. In a class like mine, what I call the “Big Ideas”are important to remember, because these are the things that students will be able to refer to during the construction of their essays in the Final Exam. Over the course of the Semester, I have given a number of quizzes that also seek to get students thinking about these same “Big Ideas,” and I have always felt that this kind of approach prepares them well for their Humanities classes in college, and teaches them to study for these kinds of classes in a group setting.
In preparing for the last week of classes, and this kind of review, I have realized that one of the central metaphors of my own spiritual life has always been that of quizzes and tests. What I mean by this is that my life of faith operates out of the idea that God offers me a daily quiz! I also believe that seeing my own life of faith in this metaphor has been one of the reasons that I have felt so comfortable in Catholic High Schools for so long. Now, lest this sound a little strange to you, let me explain what I mean. Each morning when I get up, I hear God asking me to see HIM in the course of my day -- in my interactions, my struggles, my successes and my failures. Each evening as I prepare for bed, I ask myself and God where I was successful, and where I fell short of seeing Him over the course of the day now ending. I always try my best to end my day on a positive -- an experience or an interaction that I can give great thanks about, because I saw God so clearly in it. For me, praying with the Gospel reading for Mass each day as I wake up “primes” my heart and my mind to see Jesus, and the traditional Jesuit prayer of the “Examen” enables me to do the reflection about the day Jesus and I have just lived together.
As are so many things in the spiritual life, this sounds simple, but it is not easy. My daily quiz from God cannot be called a “pop quiz,” because I know it is coming each day. I know what the question is, and I know the answer to the question! But I still “fail” many of these daily quizzes. In fact, there are weeks and months where I feel like I fail more of them than I pass. But guess what? I will continue to take this quiz each and every day, because, fail it or not, it is helping me to study for the Final Exam that is coming. When my life comes to an end, I expect to stand before the judgment seat of God to give some form of accounting for my life. No one knows exactly what that will feel like, nor do we know for sure the particular mixture of judgment and mercy we will receive from God in that moment. But I know that if I keep taking the daily quizzes God offers me, then the better prepared I will be in that ultimate moment to see Him, and choose Him, and take my refuge in the blessed shadow of His Divine throne.
All of this is in my mind as I prepare my students for their final exam in my class. My hope and prayer for them is that, through the stress and pressure of the next week, they may also catch a glimpse of the God who has given them intellect, reflection and articulateness. I hope they can learn from the “academic” quizzes and tests to recognize the FAITH quizzes and tests that come their way. And I pray that they never give up in the daily taking of these, because they are preparing for their ultimate Final Exam. may God bless us all as we work our way through finals, and as we end the school year together!
Knights of the Week
Each week Bishop Kelly faculty and staff nominate students, and students nominate faculty and staff, who have demonstrated the BK Way attributes of Faith, Safe and Caring Place, Academic Excellence, Activities, Honor, Generosity, Community, and Partnership.

Congratulations to this week's Knights of the Week!
Our Knights of the Week and BK Staff of the Week:
The Yearbook Class: Addyson DeMasters, Barrett Coyle, Olivia Benton, Claire Cunningham, Isabella Rehl, Molly Fuller, Juliana Puzio, Lauren Gauna, Victoria Garcia, Alicia Chatterton, Alex Desai, Claire Little, Anna Ranieri, Emily Diehl, Emily Laude, and Mrs. Danielle Bainbridge

Mrs. Bainbridge and her yearbook class worked tirelessly all year long to create our amazing yearbook. They were thoughtful and conscientious to include everyone in the yearbook, at least twice. They also created the incredible senior video that was shown during the Senior Mass. The Bishop Kelly community is so grateful and appreciative of the outstanding job of Mrs. Bainbridge and her entire yearbook class!

Volunteer Opportunities
Be a Parent Ambassador for Bishop Kelly!
We have two upcoming needs for Parent Ambassadors:

1) Ushers and Greeters for Graduation - if you would like to attend graduation and don't have a ticket, this is an excellent way to see the Class of 2021 walk across the stage. We need several volunteers to help greet guests and get them to their seats.

2) Welcoming and helping families that are new to BK - ambassadors use the summer months to contact each of our new BK families and help with the welcoming and onboarding process. (We'll train you!)

If you are interested in helping with either of these upcoming Parent Ambassador volunteer opportunities, please FILL OUT THIS GOOGLE FORM.
St. John's Cathedral Centennial Celebration
St. John's Cathedral will celebrate the Cathedral's Centennial Celebration June 6, 2021. We are seeking volunteers to help with the street festival that afternoon between 1-8:00 pm.

Are you a talented baker and decorator? We're having a cake competition too! All kids and adults are invited to participate! Limited to 24 entries. Bishop Peter and Fr. Mariusz will judge your entries, so bring your "A" game!
