Commemorating National Immigrant Day
Reminder of the Impact of the Immigration Clinic
Tomorrow, October 28, is the US national celebration of Immigrants Day fittingly on the same day that the Statue of Liberty opened in 1886. This day is an important reminder of the value of immigration and the importance of the work of the LUM Immigration Clinic.

Did you know?
  • One in seven U.S. residents is an immigrant, while one in eight residents is a native-born U.S. citizen with at least one immigrant parent
  • Over half of all immigrants in the United States are naturalized citizens
  • Immigrants in the United States are concentrated at both ends of the educational spectrum
  • Millions of U.S. citizens live with at least one family member who is undocumented (Source.)

For more than eight years, the LUM Immigration Clinic has helped individuals from other countries, who are legally in the US, to navigate the often difficult and confusing Immigration and Naturalization Service bureaucracy. Since 2014, the LUM Immigration Clinic has assisted more than 967 individuals, and 231 individuals in 2022 so far. Celebrate National Immigrants Day with a gift to the LUM Immigration Clinic.
Immigration Clinic - Outreach & Networking
Global Fest & Naturalization Ceremony
Recently Christian Gallo, the LUM Immigration Clinic director, attended and assisted with the USCIS Naturalization Ceremony in West Lafayette, IN. Several individuals pledged the Oath of Allegiance to the United States and became U.S. citizens on that day. LUM Immigration Clinic also set up a table with information materials at the event.

The next day, Christian attended the 2022 Global Fest (West Lafayette, IN), a popular, community-wide festival to celebrate the cultural diversity within our community. Christian staffed a tent providing information and answering questions about the services and impact of the LUM Immigration Clinic.

Outreach and networking are important parts of the mission of Lafayette Urban Ministry. Staff members are available to speak or set up an information table for churches, civic organizations, agencies, community events, and educational groups. To make arrangements for a presentation or event, call or email LUM (765-423-2691 | lum@LUMserve.org).

Successful Campaign - $50K for 50 Years
LUM 50th Anniversary Campaign for LUM Families
The LUM 50th Anniversary Celebration included the goal of raising at least $50,000 — representing $1,000 per year — for the LUM Good Samaritan Fund.

WE DID IT! The $50K for 50 Years goal was reached! As of today, $53,025 has been raised exceeding the $50,000 goal.

Thank you everyone who celebrated with LUM this year and donated to the LUM Good Samaritan Fund. If you wish to honor LUM’s 50 years of service to our community, donations are still being accepted.
The LUM Good Samaritan Fund provides local individuals, families and children with a financial safety net when in crisis – and is not used for any administrative expenses. No operating expenses are taken out of the Good Samaritan Fund — 100% of all donations go to help those in need.

So far in 2022, the LUM Financial Assistance Program assisted 1,248 households, 1,745 times disbursing $120,088 of assistance from the LUM Good Samaritan Fund for emergency requests for housing, utility and health-care expenses.
Sign up today for the LUM Turkey Trot 5K Run (Thursday, November 24). Make it a family tradition, wear a fun hat or costume, and have the most fun you can have running on Thanksgiving morning. All proceeds benefit local individuals, families and children through LUM programs and services.
