CEO Bulletin to Members: Framework For Re-Opening The Ontario Economy Speaks To “How” not “When”

Premier Doug Ford along with Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott, Finance Minister Rod Phillips and Economic Development, Job creation and Trade Minister Vic Fedeli presented A Framework for Reopening our Province, the Ontario Government’s plan for the gradual reopening of the provincial economy.
Billed as a roadmap for Ontario’s economic recovery efforts, the plan implements a staged approach to reviving the provincial economy informed by all necessary and appropriate measures to maintain public health and safety and to preserve the virus containment successes achieved to date.
Sustainable Buildings Canada (SBC) has created an online open-source platform for sharing information and ideas. The organization states that it is committed to assisting in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic in the best way it can.
SBC is asking industry professionals, architects, designers, engineers, solutions providers and facility owners to contribute to its COVID-19 Resource Centre. In particular, the organization is interested in solutions for temporary structures and their mechanical systems, telecommunications, power systems and materials selection.

Since beginning her career in 2011, Marie-Elen Côté, Eng., DESS, PMP, has rigorously managed large-scale projects with fees running in the millions. Although she has less than 10 years of experience, Marie-Elen has been responsible for a larger number of sensitive, politically controversial infrastructure projects than most of her more experienced colleagues.
Aline Bennett is a wastewater engineer at WSP Canada with about 9 years of experience in the industry. Her focus is on integrating technical engineering principles with policy and socio-economic components to support sustainable planning and decision making for healthy and resilient communities.

Engineer reviews proposed farm building regulations in National Building Code 2020

After many years of lobbying for changes to the National Building Code (NBC) and the National Fire Code pertaining to farm buildings, the end is near, Will Teron, principal at Tacoma Engineers, told delegates at this year’s Canadian Farm Builders Association (CFBA) conference.
“What I can say is the finish line is now in sight,” said Teron at the conference in Strafford, Ont. Feb. 28. “The draft requirements are out for public review, which closes March 13 and this will all lead to the publication of farm building requirements in the 2020 National Building Code.”

Do you have 10 years or more experience in the construction industry and an interest in dispute resolution? Consider applying to become a certified ODACC Adjudicator. Due to the pandemic, we are currently offering the adjudicator training live online. That is, the program will be a live interactive program which will be led by our instructors online.
The Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) is pleased to advise that it will be offering its 2020 Bursary Program to assist students enrolling in the first year of an Engineering Program at the University level for the upcoming 2020/2021 academic year.
This is the 13th consecutive year the MEA will be awarding bursaries to engineering students of the children/dependents of municipal employees and elected councillors. Up to 10 bursariers will be awarded. The highest scoring application will receive the John Hammer Memorial Bursary valued at $2,000; the balance are valued at $1,500 each. Since the inception of its Bursary Program, the MEA has awarded over $120,000 in bursaries to prospective engineering students.
