SPRINGTIME...
SPRINGTIME... happened this past weekend and is ever so welcome by Winter weary, pandemic weary New Hampshire-ites! What a way to start the season we’ve all been yearning for after a long winter socially isolated with only virtual happenings and  zoom meetings. Daylight lingers until after 7 o’clock in the evening… and there is evidence of a few green sprouts coming up, and surely many more under the frozen snow banks.  Bless the weatherman who promised a gorgeous week ahead.
Reality check: it’s only mid-March in New England. Even if this is just a temporary thaw, let's revel in the sunshine, as early arriving songbirds are returning. Have you heard them? Soon the trees will be full of avian migrants amid the budding leaves.
Another harbinger of springtime… smoke rising from the chimneys of Sugar Houses all around the area. Maple trees are tapped, the sap is flowing and golden syrup is ready for your pancakes. Enjoy Peter Bloch’s Vimeo of the traditional sugaring at Twin Lakes Villa describing the ages old process.
OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK
Gardeners and farmers are surely the most optimistic people of all… they tuck a tiny seed into the earth with full confidence that beauty and bounty will spring forth.  Project Sunapee joins in that optimism as we announce the inaugural summer for a Farmers Market in the Harbor… planning to be open every Saturday morning from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. The market committee is proud to announce the following purveyors of freshly picked produce, meats, jams and jellies, flowers and much more from the following vendors: Sunapee Farmers Market

Check this spot each week for information regarding each vendor and the products they’ll bring to market.

SPECIAL HAPPENINGS...
SPECIAL HAPPENINGS… at the John Hay Estate at The Fells

A Unique Summer Opportunity for High School Students

This summer The John Hay Estate at The Fells in Newbury will initiate a Teen Docent Program. This is an opportunity for students to become involved in one of our most important historic sites in the community. Students will spend one day at a workshop learning about how John Hay and his descendants spent their summers at The Fells. That workshop is planned for June 15th but may be adjusted to accommodate school schedules. Students will spend time with an adult docent who will serve as a mentor before they take visitors on a 45 minute to an hour tour of the house. The schedule is flexible beginning in June and ending Columbus Day weekend. The tours will be scheduled at the convenience of each teen docent. This is an opportunity for students to strengthen their public speaking skills as they engage with the public in a historical setting. It also aspires to build self-confidence and leadership skills. It is our hope that it will afford young people an opportunity to not only learn about local history but also enable them to make a contribution to an important organization in our community, The John Hay Estate at The Fells.

It can also serve as a way for students to receive community service credits.

SCAM ALERT
Sunapee Police Department is sharing this SCAM ALERT. Please be cautious, the scammers are very active lately.

Gift cards have become a popular payment tool for scam artists. That’s because gift cards are like cash: if you buy a gift card and someone uses it, you probably cannot get your money back. Gift cards are for gifts, not payments. Anyone who demands payment by gift card is always a scammer. No reputable company nor the IRS or any government agency will ever demand payment via gift cards.
