Join us for a bible study...on Zoom!
"The Life and early Letters of St. Paul"
Ron Ryan  will be leading St. John parish on a study of The Life of Paul on 4 consecutive Thursdays at 7:00 pm, starting April 30.

Paul's letters of 1 Thessalonians, Galatians,
1 & 2 Corinthians, Philippians and Philemon-the earliest writings of the New Testament-offer a glimpse into the church in its first decades. They show us what it meant to be a Christian-and to be a Christian community-in the midst of a culture diametrically opposed to the Gospel message. Join Ron Ryan in this exploration of how Paul's thoughts and writings have spoken to the church and the world for two thousand years, and how they speak to us today. Everyone is welcome. There is no registration or fee.
Join us in a collective prayer of renewal on May 1.
All U.S. bishops will join the bishops of Canada on May 1 to renew the consecrations of the U.S. and Canada to the care of our Blessed Mother for strength in the struggle against COVID-19. This act of consecration reminds us of the Blessed Mother's witness to the Gospel and her effective intercession before her Son on behalf of those in need.

On Friday, May 1, at 12 noon, we are all asked to participate in this collective prayer of renewal. Archbishop Etienne, Bishop Elizondo and Bishop Mueggenborg will live-stream the prayer service on the Archdiocese of Seattle Facebook page and Vimeo Channel.

THANK YOU for Your Support of Broadview-Thomson K-8!
The outpouring of support for to the Broadview-Thomson K-8 food program has been astounding!
25 donors gave $2270 between April 12-29th!
Even during these extraordinary times, your commitment to the larger
St. John community is in full force. These funds will assure that the school will be able to purchase food for the students and families until the end of the school year. Samantha at BTK-8 extends her thanks as well-she is able to breathe a little easier knowing they have these funds.

The Scarlet and the Black: The True Story of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty, Hero of the Vatican Underground   by J.P. Gallagher
It has all the hallmarks of a best-selling fictional thriller: espionage, conspiracy, a struggle against evil powers, undercover work by dark of night... but it's all true. The Scarlet and the Black tells the astonishing and heroic true story of Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty.  As a top man in the Vatican Holy Office, Msgr. O'Flaherty sprang into action, organizing a sophisticated team that included men and women of many nationalities, religions, and political views to save Jews and POWs from the Nazi machine. Despite Kappler's numerous attempts to assassinate him, O'Flaherty persisted, and his efforts saved thousands of Jews and POWs.
The book is available on Amazon, but delivery times are long so order it quickly. You can also watch the movie on Amazon Prime.

We will meet via Zoom at the end of May (date TBD).
Please contact diana.grusczynski@outlook.com if you would like to join.
A note from the Director of Sacraments
At this time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to celebrate the Sacraments of our Church as we usually would. Anointing of the Sick can be arranged-please contact us directly if that Sacrament is needed, at 206-782-2810 or email to parishoffice@stjohnsea.org .  If it is a pastoral emergency please call 206-300-0972.

Other sacraments (first communion, marriage, funeral masses) will be celebrated once we are able to join together in our church. We ask that everyone offer up prayers for those families who are having to postpone a sacramental celebration. We especially pray for our First Communion Families, and for those families preparing for Baptism, and entry into the Church.

Let us pray especially For those children who were preparing for First Communion prior to the pandemic, and who would have joined us at the Lord's Table this very weekend.
Family Faith Formation in time of Crisis

It's tough to stay in touch with our faith when we can't go to mass or confession, can't share time together as a community at coffee & donuts, or special celebrations such as First Communion. For our children, the home is now their main source of faith and parents are the lead catechists.

The Seattle Archdiocese Office of Marriage and Family Life has a website with resources to use to keep the faith at home.  Click here.

Questions about what to talk about with your children? Need more resources? I am happy to help!

As many in our community struggle with the effects of Coronavirus,
St. John has not been immune. The decision by Archbishop Etienne to suspended all Masses until further notice was an important step in helping slow the spread of the virus and was not taken lightly.

Not being able to come together each week to celebrate the Eucharist has taken a toll on our spiritual life and also has seriously impacted our weekly collection. Like most parishes, 90% of our revenue comes from the generous support of our faith community. This generosity supports the basic operations (payroll, utilities, maintenance, etc.) and ministries of our church.

Your continued support of St. John will ensure the financial viability to get us through this crisis!  Click here to donate now.

Asante Sana to those who are already continuing to mail in checks and donate online. Your support means so much!
AeroBreath Ventilator Developed
by Parish Member's Father

Michelle Peters, her husband, Jon, and their three children are parishioners at St. John and would like to share news of her father's engineering development to aid in the world's fight against COVID-19. He has developed a simple, low-cost ventilator with the capabilities needed to make a difference and save lives right now. You can read the story and how it's being used at aerobreath.us . The ventilator is currently in clinical trial at a major Boston hospital and the project is in contact with an organization in Haiti that will receive the first shipment of machines.
This passion project has been led by Michelle's dad, a lifelong engineer, father of six, and devout Catholic from Vermont.  Thank you Jim Richards!
Parish and Mission Effectiveness
All practicing lay Catholics in the Archdiocese are invited to complete an online survey that seeks to better understand the experiences, beliefs, needs, desires and faith trajectories of Catholics across western Washington.
