Live, In-Person Service Protocols

Both Sunday services — 7:45 and 10 AM — are live and in-person. The 10 AM service will continue to be live-streamed in the future. You can always choose to watch the service on-line.

At the 7:45 AM service, sing the opening and closing hymns then feel free to remove your masks for the rest of the service. The Celebrant will continue to wear a mask while singing, during the Eucharistic Prayer, and while distributing Communion.

For attending the live service at 10 AM, bear in mind that streaming goes live at 9:45 AM and the microphones in the sanctuary are sensitive. Any sound you make or conversation you have can be picked up on those microphones and sent out to the world. Consider this when you enter the sanctuary.

To insure your safety, these are the steps we will be taking and what we ask of each of you attending in person:

1)  All windows and doors to the outside will be opened throughout the service.
2)  Merv 13 air filters have been installed.
3)  Pews will be marked for seating locations, insuring 6 feet distance between family groups.
4)  Service time will be under 75 minutes.
5)  We will have a maximum seating capacity of 200.
6)  All congregants must wear a mask, properly worn over nose and mouth.
8)  We will continue utilizing four masked singers and not a full choir.
9)  Communion will be served in one kind.
10)  Children and youth and the nursery will meet outside and in McBride Hall, with the swamp cooler running to provide 100% air from the outside.
11)  We strong suggest that only those who have been fully vaccinated attend services in person.

The 10 AM service includes a beyond-the-Prayer Book liturgy, with prayers linking to the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. The congregation can also now sing with a mask on.

We encourage all to meet outside after the service. The next step will be a more formal coffee hour after each service or between the services. The Diocese has approved outdoor settings for such coffee hours. These gatherings can include food and drinks, but careful consideration must be made regarding hygiene, spacing, location during the summer heat, and how to host them.

We are putting together a sub-committee to consider these questions in hopes that we can get something organized in the next few weeks. If you are interested in assisting, please contact Parish Administrator Pam Spears.

We are also considering Adult Spiritual Formation and potential hybrid forms of gathering together again. Ideas? Share them with Parish staff.

Parents, please note. The nursery is now staffed every Sunday for the 10:00 a.m. worship service in McBride Hall. Kids can be dropped off as early as 9:40 a.m. Nursery is for infants-age 3. Kids are welcome to enjoy church with their families in the Sanctuary. The Nursery will be open for babies & toddlers in McBride Hall.
*Please wear your name tags so folks can recognize you in your mask.*
Don't have a name tag? Contact the office, 327-6857, Mon-Fri, 9:00a-4:00p,
or email [email protected].

On Monday, July 26, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Dr. William J Barber II, and Barbara Arnwine are coming to Phoenix! They'll be leading a rally, march and nonviolent sit-in at Senator Sinema's office to demand immediate climate action to defend our democracy.
Together, we will be calling on Senator Sinema to end the filibuster, pass bills defending our freedom to vote, and act to improve the lives of working people, including raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Please join us for the rally and march! Registration and event details can be found in this link.
Grace St. Paul's is the grateful recipient of a $30,000 CORE Grant from the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona. Our grant was made possible by the Gertrude K. Poland Fund. This grant will significantly help us to continue to be a beacon of hope for our community through our earth justice, migrant justice, and social justice ministries, as well as through our genuine care for one another.

The Great Pretenders: August First Friday Play Reading

The GSP Spirit Players will host the First Friday Play Reading on August 6, at 7 p.m. on Zoom, with several short plays that celebrate and cheerfully malign "The Great Pretenders" of theatre, Actors. It has been said that "Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances."

And theatre can't exist without actors. So this evening will be dedicated to a variety of types of actors in a variety of imaginary circumstances. Readers will become the actors cast in the first production of Hamlet, who quibble about their lines and stage props, as well as actors who manage to make a bad play even worse with their missed entrances and cues.

There will also be bombastic actors who insult theatre critics in a restaurant while their semi-talented friends insist on applauding their latest cereal commercial, and the poor "natural" woman hired for a campaign commercial whose name doesn't poll well.

Those who wish to participate as readers on should RSVP to Nanalee Raphael (contact information is in the Parish Directory) by midnight Tuesday, August 3. Parts will then be assigned prior to the reading. Scripts will be emailed to all participants — readers and audience — on the Wednesday before the reading, along with the Zoom sign-in information.

Roles may not be available for everyone, but audience members are always welcome! All plays are suitable for humans aged 12 and above. All are encouraged to attend, and you won't need to dress up for the "theatah."
VIRTUAL ADULT EDUCATION

In the latest Virtual Adult Education presentation, Dr. Chuck Dickson takes a look at the Transfiguration of Jesus and discusses why the Episcopal Church marks this event with a feast day (which is on August 6th).

To access all the classes:
Registration for EFM (Education for Ministry) is about to begin! Please consider joining us as we meet weekly to discuss the scholarship on scripture, the 3,000-year history of the church, modern theology — and, most importantly, what all of this means for us as followers of Christ today.

If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca Dickinson (202-577-7365, [email protected]) or Dave Coatsworth (520-743-6763, [email protected]).

P.S. We also have snacks!

Join GSP's Anti-Racism
Study Group

Next meeting will be July 27
4th Wednesday — 4:30-5:30 pm

In response to GSP's vision of social justice, the church's “anti-racism to ally” group has been endeavoring to live into its vision through focusing on social justice. The group has focused on writings regarding racism and white privilege, and aims to "move from anti-racism to ally."

To be put on the list to receive materials, to get zoom information on our monthly zoom meeting, or if you have any questions, please contact Rev. Chris, Jill McCollum, Barbara Morehouse, or Peggy Scott through the church office, 520-327-6857.
