Retirement Celebration

Faithfull serving St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School since July of 2012, the Reverend Pastor Timothy L. Kinne will be retiring from his ministry at St. Matthew on June 30, 2021. 
To express our gratitude and appreciation, a farewell reception will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021, in Krueger Hall immediately following the 10:00 a.m. church service. There will only be one service on Sunday, May 23rd.  Due to Covid restrictions the reception will be limited to the first 200 guests that RSVP. A refreshment of a box lunch, dessert, and beverage will be provided for a suggested donation of $15.00 or free will donation. Those who are planning on attending will need to RSVP by Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Please call the church office at 847.438.7709 or email selimos@stmattsonline.com, to make your reservation. Our thanks are shared with you as we continue to work in conjunction with local, state, and federal agencies pertaining to the phases of Covid control.

The mite box challenge was the men of the congregation verses the women of the congregation. 
The winner of the Mite Box challenge...
is the WOMEN!!
We collected $ 3010.82 
Please continue to fill those Mite Boxes with your loose ‘change’ and turn them in. Or you can donate check or cash. You may also use the PayPal feature on our website; please note donation to LWML. 
The LWML Convention is in June. 
We have a small group of ladies who will be attending.
For the ingathering, we are seeking donations off gift cards to stores like Walmart or Target in the denominations of $10, $20, or $25 to be donated to the Food Bank Support for the Concordia Seminaries.
If you would like to contribute, please leave your gift cards in the Mite Box or give to Helen Burnidge, Darlene Buchwald, Maria Collard, or Nancy Blonski.
Our next meeting is May 16th and will be virtual. Mark those calendars for the fall meetings on September 19 and October 3rd (LWML Weekend).

BIBLE STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
Due to these uncertain times please anticipate a varied approach to the Christian Education Opportunities that are being made available at St. Matthew. Many of the Bible Studies will be held VIRTUALLY via BlueJeans or Zoom technology. If you are interested in any of these studies you may contact the Bible Study Instructor or the Church Office for the correct link to get onto the study.

LUTHERAN WALK OF FAITH —SUNDAY MORNING ADULT BIBLE STUDY & ADULT DISCIPLESHIP CLASS Starting Sunday, April 11th, the Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study will be combined with the Adult Discipleship Class. This will be a 8 week class, concluding on May 30th. (No class on May 23rd). Classes meet on Sunday morning @ 9:00am in Luther Hall. If you would like to receive the handouts for either Bible study (or both!) email the Church Office at selimos@stmattsonline.com to get on the email list -
You can participate in these Bible studies either in-person in Luther Hall or virtually via our online Bible study program.

TUESDAY EVENING LADIES’ LIFE GROUP  -
TUESDAY EVENING LADIES’ LIFE GROUP  - Ladies Life Group will meet each Tuesday at 7:00pm for a virtual Bible study The next Bible study for the Ladies Life Group is Praying with Power. We start May 4th.    We will explore journaling prayers, prayer attitudes, and how to pray through a desert or a valley.  It will be 12 weeks of study with down to earth illustrations and reflections to help you move the truth from your head to your heart.  For more info, see Nancy Blonski. C.O.O.L. (Christian Outreach of Lutherans) - a food
pantry for some of the neediest families in Lake County. Please bring a can of food/box of cereal with you when you worship and place them in the bins in Luther Hall. May food item is Canned Fruit.

St. Matthew Youth - Our youth director, Kristin Gierke, is looking forward to spring and summer gatherings including
junior high and high school outdoor hangouts and game nights, as well as hangouts with the young adults.
Kristin has incorporated a day by day scripture calendar that can be found on the website. This calendar encourages the youth and young adults to spend time in their bibles daily by following along with the daily provided scripture.
Thank you to everyone who participated and help in preparing and running the Easter Parade, it was a great success with 125 cars and over 600 lbs of food brought in.

HELPING HANDS MINISTRY of St. Matthew Lutheran Church & School is intended to provide critical emergency financial support. Please contact one of the Pastors if such support is needed. Contributions to this ministry are also welcome.

God's blessings to you! This week our Emerging Skills and Interests were: Bloom Where You Are Planted-Exploring Flowers. This was a review week for both our letters and numbers. Our theme for Show & Share was to bring in your favorite toy. In Religious Studies, the preschoolers are learning about Peter and the Cripple.
